Nissan to bring $3,000 car to the U.S.?

Quote:
Nissan could sell a version of an ultra low-priced car in North America, a new report finds. Nissan would first sell the $2,500 vehicle in India in 2010, but could bring it to more mature markets after that. If brought to the U.S., the car would likely be priced from $3,000.
Ghosn is starting to sound more like a Malcom Bricklin type dude every day.

"Ghosn has yet to ink a deal with Indian motorcycle maker Bajaj Auto Ltd. — the company that would produce the car "

I think they're using the word "car" rather loosely.

I have a very hard time believing that such a car would meet all US safety standards. Unless Ghosn is looking to expand into the golf cart market.

Heck, the mandatory Bluetooth, push-button ignition, and baby-bottom texture plastics people demand would cost $3000!

I'll bet the car would have poor quality, and aweful safety. It would flop, and it would destroy Nissan's reputation. Bring it here!

Re: Nissan to bring $3,000 car to the U.S.?

I don't want to discourage Nissan from doing this, because I think it's a really bad idea.

Anyone want to stay in a $20 a night hotel? Want a $0.10 hotdog? How about a $2 t-shirt?

At some point, EVERY American would prefer a 5 year old banged-up Cobalt to a brand-spankin-new glorified motorcycle.

Re: Nissan to bring $3,000 car to the U.S.?

Isn't Nissan reputation already going down the drain anyway?? With the cars they're putting out there now days poor Nissan is going down with it. I remember reading an article about GM a few years back saying that GM had not understood the market and what people want to buy. I can honestly say that I think the tables have turned for Nissan and Honda.

Agreed! Golf cart is exactly what came to mind. I guess he'll have the gated Golf resort community sales sewn up.
