Nissan Azeal concept may inspire next-gen Sentra

Nissan Azeal concept may inspire next-gen Sentra

The Azeal concept coupe, revealed by Nissan at the Detroit auto show, which closes tomorrow, could provide clues as to what the next-generation Sentra compact line will look like.

Perhaps it will even include an Azeal-like coupe, to compete with Honda's Civic.

Nissan design chief Shiro Nakamura is on record as saying the new Sentra will be "modern and dynamic," not "conservative" like the current model.

That description certainly applies to Azeal.

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn revealed in Detroit that the design originally planned for the new Sentra was sent back to the studio for an overhaul after faring poorly in consumer clinics — and in his eyes.

As a result, the new generation's arrival has been delayed until late in 2006.

Thank you for pointing that out. They look so alike its rediculous. I always said Nissan takes minor styling cues from Toyota/Lexus, this is an exact rip off of the tC.

nobody is mentioning that the stripes along the ab+c pillar tops looks vaguely reminiscient of an ion? and that the roofline isn't that far off from a distorted ion quad coupe?

Well I definately see the resemble to the Scion Tc. That said, I like the look of the Azeal better. If the Sentra looks like that and they squeeze even more power out of the 2.5 liter 4 or turbo/supercharge it. The sport compact scene would get even more interesting. Besides it looks WAY better than other Nissan the next Sentra was originally gonna be based on.

Yeah I see that also, but its far more of a tC copy cat than anything else.

overall shape of the car
shape of the side windows
bulging fender flairs that also extend to a slight bulge on side skirts
shape of the rear tailights
shape of the trunk
the way the car sits higher in the back lower in the front
huge alloy wheels that you should never find on a 16K car

And thats not even mentioning the similarities in size. Talk about direct competition. Not only that, Nissan also has a car coming out that looks exactly the the Scion xB. Looks like there will be one more toaster oven on the road. Its like Nissan made the next gen tC and xB for Toyota.

Nissan isn't the only Japanese company guilty of it. The previous generations Accord Sedan and Camry were in a Popular Mechanics comparison test. I had to do a double take on the photos showing the front of the cars to convince myself they weren't the same car.

Re: Nissan Azeal concept may inspire next-gen Sentra

Why is it a tC "copy"? The tC is not the first car to look the way it does. I'm thinking more a mini-350Z. BTW, the Nissan Cube came out before the xB (bB, it's Japanese versuon to be exact).

Re: Nissan Azeal concept may inspire next-gen Sentra

why is this a "tc copy?" the g6 sedan has almost the exact same tailights as the scion, which came out before the pontiac. if ya ask me, pontiac is the one stealing designs from toyota. cough solara cough the g6 looks more like the scion. besides, its an attractive design, so theres no reason companies shouldnt use it.

My sentiments exactly. If this is the new styling direction of Nissan,
it's a clear improvement over their current products.

Re: Nissan Azeal concept may inspire next-gen Sentra

well, that's good, but i just don't like that the azeal looks to much of a scion tc, but both look good anyways.
so the next gen sentra wil be renault based with scion tc design...thinking....i wonder what it will look like.
