next-gen Lancer Evo
Not sure if this was posted, I didn't see it yet on here:
http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103252 pictures at above link also X marks the Concept: Mitsubishi to show concept version of next-gen Lancer Evo at Tokyo show Mitsubishi has plenty planned for the upcoming 39th Tokyo Motor Show, including the highly-anticipated world concept debut of its next-generation rally car. The highlight of Mitsu's show stand will be Concept-X, which is basically the next-generation Lancer Evolution. The company will also show Concept-D:5, a go-anywhere, high-performance concept, a new-look Outlander and the new-age i minicar. Concept-X is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four mated to a clutchless six-speed auto-manual transmission controlled by paddle shifters mounted on the steering column. The frame has been significantly stiffened, while the use of aluminum in the hood, trunk lid, fenders, roof and front and rear door panels reduces weight. Reducing weight in the roof and upper parts of the body helps lower the center of gravity, while weight reduction in the doors, engine hood, and trunk reduces the moment of inertia for better steerability. Suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link at the rear. The on-board multimedia system includes a high-definition liquid crystal monitor providing real-time display of vehicle and the all-wheel-drive system’s operating status while also displaying on-board navigation system maps and DVD audio controls. Rear seat passengers have their own liquid crystal display on the back of the front seats that allows them to share with the driver driving-related information and his/her fun-to-drive experience. |

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
I agree I liked the way it looked when I saw it.
Now if only they'd make a coupe version....but we all know the story behind that. I guess if you want a coupe, that is what the Eclipse is for. |

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
I'd rather have that over a melted plastic Eclipse any day. I think there may be some hope for Mitsubishi after all. That's one good looking small sedan.
Also it looks like the Mustang started a trend with the canted grille (Mustang, Charger, now this). |

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
I REALLY like the Evo concept. The previous styling was getting extremely stale, but the new design is very aggressive looking. It would be interesting to see how it might look once in production.

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
Best picture yet.....if they can give it atleast SOME interior refinement with all that speed.....I might have to consider one....

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
This is definitly a different look than the eclipse, two differen styles.
That might be a good thing for Mitsu. The eclipse is so different....that many people will not like it..but the few who do apparently love it. For the rest who are disgusted by it...this is different enough to give them another option. |

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
That's hot. I second the call for a good interior; I could never buy a car without one.
That other vehicle pictured, Concept D:5 truck thingy, is fugly. |

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
The Lancer Evo featured in the link is a vast improvement style-wise over the present generation.
The photos of the other concepts/vehicles indicates ugly is still in fashion at Mitsubishi design studios. |

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
Looks mean, it won't save Mitsu though. When will their regular cars get some of that verve? Probably sooner than regular Chevrolets will get some that's for sure.

Re: next-gen Lancer Evo
Looks great. It may make it to market almost unchanged - Mitsu definately has some wild looking production vehicles. I could see the headlights being bigger, though. And what's with the hood scoop? Not that I don't like it, but I'm not sure of it's function.
It's kind of funny, at first I was against the Eclipse as a FWD big V6 tourer, having had a turbo AWD Talon in the past, but now I accept the role of the Eclipse as the new 3000GT. One thing I would absolutely love to see is a slightly toned down 'Evo' to act like the normal Subaru WRX competitor - AWD, turbo'd to about 220 -230hp, smaller tires and wing than the Evo proper, and less expensive. That'd be sweet.
