It looks like the all-new redesigned Jaguar S-Type will be renamed to XF, reported earlier by Jaguar’s managing director, Bibiana Boerio. Jaguar is hoping that with the new name, it will come along as a whole entire different car. The current S-Type is nothing but plain old boring styling, but now with the introduction of the XK-Type, many artists predict that the new XF will be ...

Re: New S-Type to become XF

I think that overall this is a good move. They want to break with the past and the new XK was well recieved. Moving away from the S-Type name to XF would certainly help that.

Plus it would offer some consistency to the naming scheme. Right now they have XJ, XK, X-Type and S-Type. If they move to XF that will only leave the X-Type name as the odd man out (and it will die by the end of the decade according to rumors).

Regardless, I just hope it's a good product...

But it also may show the emphasis that FoMoCo will put on Jaguar now that Aston Martin is on the chopping block -- and how important it will become moving forward.

If Aston is sold off (and Ford retains a smaller 20% stake in the company) then it will allow Jaguar to move upward a few rungs. That means that Jag and Aston will be able to compete for the same customers. For all we know, we could see a few Jag products that chase the same type of customers as Aston Martin like a new sport-coupe (ala V8 Vantage/911 chaser), etc.

Interesting to ponder.

Re: New S-Type to become XF

That really sounds stupid to me! XF just sounds retarded!

Also, the "S-class" has had some prestige in the US market, why kill off a name like that?

So much prestige that people get it confused with a Mercedes.

With the XF, looks like they can rename the X-Type the XD.
