I don't know may Mercedes models (or any other new vehicles) that come with a 10% rebate within three months of introduction...

Sounds like DCX has another "Crossfire" on their hands, or should I say "Misfire".

It's a shame. The R is really a nice vehicle.

Crazy thing is, I have seen plenty on the road.

I wonder if they are fleet vehicles

Re: New Mercedes Benz An Edsel?

Mercedes-Benz stated sales goal for R class was 20-30,000 units per year.

2 months of sales later (Dec 2005 & January 2006), these are the figures.

10/2005 (first full month of availability)- 930 units sold
11/2005 - 1,213 units
12/2005 - 2,430 units
1/2006 - 686 units (see http://www.daimlerchrysler.com/Proj...es___Jan_06.pdf for 1/2006 sales figures)

Problems with this car, is because, is just too overpriced for an MPV.

In fact, why DaimlerChrysler, should be bothered making a Mercedes MPV, when they already have Chrysler and Dodge Minivans?

The R-Class may be a nice car. But is way too "Chryslerish" for a Mercedes.

Re: New Mercedes Benz An Edsel?

Wow...this is a brand new car too...and I thought it would sell "relatively" well. Finally though, a Mercedes that has less rebates than a Tahoe!

Well that explains it. Who-ever wanted one ... bought one

Re: New Mercedes Benz An Edsel?

The R class was funny looking. Like an oversized station wagon.

I thought that it was kinda cool - but way too expensive for its potential professional-on-a-weekend-with-adult-kids client.

Re: New Mercedes Benz An Edsel?

I'm a little surprised about the sales figures given how many I've seen on the road. However, not everyone wants (or needs) an expensive people mover. It might have made sense as a Chrysler, but not as a Mercedes.

the pacifica came out first and that was the biggest problem. people think ITS a rebadged chrysler w/ some enhancements INSTEAD of the other way around.

Re: New Mercedes Benz An Edsel?

Its ugly.

Mercedes should get back to making really good cars. Let Jag and Audi make the tech geek mobile for people who enjoy paying too much for a car and spend too much money keeping that car up.

Mercedes should last forever, be very comfortable, handle well, ride better, have a powerful V8 gas or I6 diesel engine, and it should never be a minivan or station wagon thing. At least, that is what I think when someone says Mercedes. I kind of remember the families old 1986 SEL 300 Turbo diesel. That thing was a tank.

The only two box vehicle Mercedes should make is the G wagon and M class.

Since Mercedes of 1980s are gone, Buick should step up and make a couple of super reliable, comfortable, safe, and very fast RWD sedans. I can't think of anyone who makes a car like that...except maybe the LS430, but its more of a Luxury car than I like.
