Re: New Mazda RX-9?

the front wheel arches are corvette'sq.. I do not think a Rotary Engine can make it competitive enough with GT-R and the upcoming Lexus/Supra V10.. so they will need a turbo cylinder

Re: New Mazda RX-9?

They'll need to do something to bump up the power to remain a serious player in that market. I heard they were having problems getting a turbo rotary to pass emissions a few years back. That being said it wouldn't be an RX with out a rotary under the hood. Hopefully they've figured out a way to turbo it. If they put a turbo setup in it like the one the RX-7 had it could be a great car again.

It is definitely going to need a whole lot of power to overcome those looks. Those wheel arches are horrible.

Re: New Mazda RX-9?

it's a 1.9 rotary, at least that is what all the reports say, if displacement to power output is a liner equation, which we all know it isn't it should put this car in the 350hp range NA.

now that being said. the old Rx7 was a boatload faster then the corvette at the time, being 50 horsepower and a ton of torque shy, actually was faster around a track till the first Z06 came around, then it still had a fighting chance, (at a 140 hp deficit) so if Mazda waives it's lightweight wand on this car too it might be a pretty decent performer. the brakes and turning will make up for a less then brisk acceleration..

I race a lightweight car with huge brakes and I get a really big grin when I reel in much more expensive machinery under braking, then am able to stay in front of them. (usually until the next long straight, and the junkies are able to stomp on the loud pedal)

Re: New Mazda RX-9?

A rotary would be plenty sufficient if this is geared toward 350Z more as the the old RX-7 was in pricing. Any power shortage it has on the 350Z could probably easily be made up in a weight advantage.

Re: New Mazda RX-9?

looks quite a bit better than the current RX-8(which isnt saying much!!!). Its ok, but nothing special IMO, though I really do like the wheels! Hopefully they get the power rite on this one, if anyone here has ever drove the RX-8 you will know what I mean. I have only driven one once, and it was "quick" at best. Mabey I expected it to be alot faster than it was, and that why it seemed so slow! Not to mention you had to rev it till it screamed(near 8000rpm) to get the small amount of power it had to come out! I've always thought they needed a turbo Mazdaspeed version of the RX-8. Mabey this new one will be competitive!

Re: New Mazda RX-9?

Mazda has the best stylists. All of their cars in the past several years, with the exception of the '08 Tribute, are stylistic gold.

Re: New Mazda RX-9?

WOW I like it

I wonder if the RX-9 platform could be use for other cars? I taught of a new Lincoln Continental Mark X coupe for example.
