3RD JULY 2015

Ma che bella machina!

Ladies and gentlemen, straight from Turin, Italy, it is our pleasure to present you with the modern iteration of the city car that motorized Italy. The new Fiat 500 boasts new stylistic cues inside and out, enhanced engines and technology, and an on-sale date of early September.

To start at £10,890 in Great Britain, the 2016 Fiat 500 facelift will be offered at launch in three trim levels: Pop, Popstar or Lounge. Be it the normal tin-top or soft-top convertible, the updated Cinquecento comes with Euro 6-compliant engines. The range starts with a 69 horsepower 1.2-liter and continues with an 85/105 horsepower 0.9-liter TwinAir two-cylinder turbo.

Not a huge change, but certainly better than nothing at all.

Though this is a more "timely update" for the US market (where it went on sale in 2011), it's very late for those markets that have had it since it debuted in 2007.

Still, it's very difficult to update an "icon", and do it in such a way as to make it recognizable to future customers. The Mustang and Mini (and the most recent Camaro) have all experienced this phenomenon over time (to varying degrees of success). Perhaps the introduction of the design changes introduced to 500L and 500X will help to move the styling needle further when the next generation arrives.

Glad to see that Chrysler's Uconnect is being adopted by other parts of the FCA group.

This car needs some things that shouldn't be too much to ask for in todays day and age: The Automatic equipped model should be reaching at least 40mph highway, ESPECIALLY when you consider the performance this gets.

Sonic 1.4t automatic (which is bigger and heavier than this) gets 37, and has for a few years.
Fiesta Automatic gets 37
Even a premium Subcompact like the Mini cooper automatic gets 37.
The Chevy Spark, a tall subcompact like the Fiat, gets 39.

There is NO WAY the 500, with an automatic (which is what they sell mostly here) should get 34. Espeically when the same car with the same engine in a manual gets 40. They must be using the most inefficient, antiquated 6 speed auto available.

Antiquated?? This is one of the best twin clutch transmissions on the market. It's designed, built and assembled by Fiat Powertrain Technologies, Magneti Marelli and BorgWarner in Verrone Italy. It can handle the highest torque input 350 N-m on the market today by any dry clutch unit made.
Fiat Powertrain Technologies is a subsidiary of VM Motori. These are top of the line units that have a proven past. Last year Fiat pumped out 2.4 million of them, you might not like the car they're in but I would take a C635 DDCT over a 6T75 any day of the week.

Absolutely gorgeous, fantastic interior and mildly updated exterior.
Very youth-oriented for a fun toss-about.
Not sure how well a manual shifter will sell in North America, but everything else looks great.
