2016 BMW M2 Coupé specs leak ahead of launch Successor to 1-series M Coupe gets 365bhp, an electronic differential and a choice of manual or automatic gearbox. John McIlroy/Autocar
October 13, 2015
Leaked magazine coverage of the long-awaited successor to the BMW 1M Coupe reveals that the car gets a single-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder motor, with 365bhp and 343lb ft of torque - although a further 26lb ft will be available on overboost between 1450rpm and 4750rpm.
Those figures will be enough for the M2 to reach 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds when equipped with a manual gearbox - or 4.3sec if the optional dual-clutch DCT transmission is fitted. All M2s will get an electronic limited-slip rear differential as standard.
However, wait until (much like the 1M before it) it arrives at dealers with a $20k "market adjustment", and less than 700 make it to the United States.
I was so angry, and I'll reserve my judgment until I see its actual availability.
There is something utterly purposeful to the M2. I wouldn't be surprised if it can outrun The M3 and M4. Who needs the M3's and M4's decent rear seats? That would mean that the passengers you plan to carry in the back are too heavy anyway. The M2 says: the back seat is for small kids only.
Im pretty impressed with the specs on this. I think this would make a great second car/play toy. But i think it may be a little small for a practical daily driver. In that case I would go with a M3 or M4
I'd love to see Cadillac fire back with a coupe this size, lighter curb weight, mag-ride and the upcoming 3.0 TT motor. Give it a quality stick from another supplier other than tremec and some recaro seats... drooolllll.
I love this car. I know it is out of my price range, but this kind of performance in this small of a footprint is what I really like. I like having the back seat more as a storage option than for hauling people, and this size (much like the Camaro) does that perfectly.

The size will be appealing for some but considering it will cost about the same as the new ZL1, I know which one I would get. The ZL1 will be in a different performance league.
This might be the first BMW I have ever considered buying. Still not a fan of the German 3's interiors though and prefer the lay out and design Cadillac is using..
I got to spend some seat time in a regular 2 Series this summer and found it a pleasant little car. I don't really understand the hype behind BMWs, but I would seriously consider purchasing a 2 Series if I were in the market for a new car.
What's so bad about it? I like it a lot personally.
