New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

BMW officially announces new N54 Turbo Engine

BMW today released new details on its much-rumored N54 Bi-Turbo Engine. The motor is expected to appear in the 2007 BMW 335i and 2007 BMW 335ci (coupe). The engine has an output of 306 horsepower and maximum torque of 295 lbs.-ft (400 Nm). BMW said it has already tested a 3-Series sedan with the engine, and achieved a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds. BMW said the engine is relatively lightweight — about 70kg less than its 4.0-liter V8 engine. According to the automaker, the 3.0-liter engine has little or no turbo lag, thanks to two small turbos instead of one large one. Maximum torque is achieved between 1500 and 5800 rpm. What we know so far: BMW will show its new E92 3-Series coupe at the Geneva Motor Show along with this new engine. What's no entirely clear is whether this engine will make it to North America. Recent rumors suggested this turbo engine would be exclusive to Europe, and a different naturally-aspirated powerplant would drive the 335 in North America.

Re: New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

thats really awesome, I have always wanted a BMW, especially a M3 coupe, I have always liked BMW's engines especially the 6cyl egines. for the next generation M3 BMW needs to bore that engine out to about 3.6l and boost HP to over 400HP, that would be one sweet M3. I'd buy one.......if I had the money that is!

Re: New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

A 3.0 I-6 Twin-Turbo should produce a lot more power than only 306 Bhp; although 295 Ib-ft of torque isn't bad at all.

306 Bhp is is barely more than the 3.0L I6 makes in the Normally Aspirated version of the 330i which outputs 250 Bhp.

They're probably trying not to impinge too much on the widely-rumored High-Revving 4.0L V8 400 Bhp that will be in the next M3.

If the two turbos are small, then you might need something more than an ECU upgrade to get monstrous power.

This engine will be a monster after Alpina, Hamann and Hartge have tuned it!

Re: New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

306 hp... just enough to match the IS350... wonder if it'll be upped to 315-325ish when the new Infiniti G comes out with its 3.7L V-6. i'm pretty sure this is a turbo version of the BMW 325i engine (which is still a 3.0L regardless of the model name), and that they could do the same thing to the 330i's engine to make a 350hp version, but as others have said that steps on the toes of the V-8's.

they should have kept it an i6. but hopefully some of the thing in the current m3 should be fixed. like the gas guzzling and the horrible chainsaw exhaust note. i gess this is because of the high compression.

The 325i has a 2.5 I-6 24V 220 Bhp and so as the 525i.

Re: New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

not according to the reviews i've read, and both edmunds.com and bmwusa.com:

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/bmw/...523/specs.html

http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/3/200...n/techdata.htm

both say 215hp/185lb-ft 3.0L I-6... maybe the euro spec is different... but we get 3.0L no matter what the numbers after the 3 say.

Re: New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

Oh well. I guess we Europeans really do get a 2.5 I-6 engine.

Check it out: BMW 325i E90

Masterful engineering from BMW, as usual. I hope they buy and fix GM (the enginneering aspect atleast, styling is on now w/ the Lutz effict{didn't he work for BMW once**).

Re: New BMW 3.0 I-6 Biturbo officially released.

yeah, i had a feeling the might be different between NA and Europe... for no apparent reason either, since ya'lls 2.5L makes almost identical numbers to the 325's 3.0L... how strange. maybe BMW is following GM's lead of having massive redundancy in thier 6 cylinder engine lineups.

Lincoln can do a better job engineering the 3.5

and they can't even make a good grille.

Leave Jaguar to handle the BMWs.
