More praise for the Opel Insignia interior

http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/still...-insignia.aspx

Quote:
You won’t believe the interior of the new Vauxhall Insignia - particulary if your memory of cabins in Luton cars consists of cliff-faced fascias formed in ultra-durable plastics, plus knobs and switches straight from the Early Learning Centre.

In detail and perceived quality, it’s close to matching BMW and not so far behind Audi. Vauxhall believes the expanding success of Chevrolet as GM’s new worldwide ‘entry’ brand gives them permission to move Vauxhall upmarket — though not to the extent of hiking prices — and their designers have taken full advantage. Design boss Mark Adams reckons the work with Insignia will “lift all GM Design”, and will have special impact on the new Astra, due in 2010.

Good to see, GM is definately improving on the interior and exterior design, definately looking forward to more and more models picking up the new interior styles.

Re: More praise for the Opel Insignia interior

GM had no place to go but up...if you look inside a Pontiac G6 you'll see a standard quality that is far below even the cheapest Korean import. Hopefully Saturn will get this car as the next Aura which although being a step forward wasn't good enough for conquest sales form European or Japanese competitors. I personally thought the Current Aura interior to still show poor fit, finish with cheap plastic everywhere,

As a past G6 owner and now a current Aura owner, I find your statements to be false. I loved the G6's interior. I think in Pontiac, the interior should not be flashy. I think it was simple and very well laid out. The Aura's interior is nice as well. I would not say that they look cheaper than a Korean import. No way at all! My Aura's interior is up to par with those of VW and they have some of the best interiors on the market today.

The entire upper dash of all 3 EP cars is soft touch. The leather is also of high quality. The G6's interior is a little bland and lacks the bow tie radio but its not of poor quality. When C&D first tested the 2005 G6 they were very complimentary of the interior and exterior styling.

I have been in the 2008 Camry and its plastics are cheaper than than the Aura and I found plastic flashing on the edges of storage bins. I havent seen any such thing in the Aura. The worst fit and finish issue in the Aura is the alignment of the trim on the doors and dash. Its pretty good beyond that.

The G6's interior is not worse than whats found on lower end Hyundai products.

I think the Hyundai's interior looks much better than the G6. I know that it is one of the older interiors in the GM lineup, but it really needs to improve to be competitive.

I would agree with this.

The Insignia interior looks fantastic! Can't wait to see it here as a Saturn!

I remember people complaining about this when the car first came out. And your right it still does not line up, it was designed not to. The real irony here is it was done that way on purpose. When you sit in the driver seat and look at it it lines up. Honestly this is true. GM figured that the customer would rather look at it lined up when they sit in the seat rather than looking at it static. They were wrong and the tooling is set now. Its not an assembly problem. Its done that way on purpose I swear. They learned. You notice that if you look at a CTS and a Malibu it lines up static.

I agree.. the G6 interior is just sort of there... its okay but not great. especially the wide swatch of plastic over the passenger side area... no details no lines no trim etc... really boring

i completely agree! the G6 is awful, and the Aura is a little bit of a disappointment. i thought it was going to be the car to finally compete head to head with the Japanese, and it's still not quite there, with cheap plastic surfaces and inconsistent (and sometimes huge) gaps throughout.

The sonata looks good in pictures, until you see it in person. Its a cheap imitation of Lexus, and the cheap shows. that is bad. I would rather originality than cheap knockoff

The G6 interior is probably the worst out there. Small buttons, cheap looking plastic and a shift noob that look like a baseball. The G6 needs a revamp and a revamp now.

Re: More praise for the Opel Insignia interior

The g6's interior does seem spartan when compared to the rest of the Ep3 lineup, but isn't that the way the brands are slotted in? Not necessarily an excuse for having a dull interior, but it's not terrible, just boring.
Love the pics of the new Insignia, the design and execution are A+. However the transmission tunnel looks wide by the bottom of the console, could be a problem with knee room, and the window buttons seem to be in an akward place.

pity that Hyundai couldn't make the Genesis dash more attractive.

You bought an HHR, I don't think you have any room to say whether or not an interior is cheap.
