I wonder if Ford is "GUN SHY" on RWD because of the FALCON is all but dead and in most accounts I have read is a better car then the VE Commy but is missing the "[b] X factor [\b]"
to me a Mustang MK coupe and Falcon Family should live on as one chassis and base the lincoln on the Falcon sized one to separate it from the smaller 'sting

The Ford brand seems to be firmly positioned. They have the resources to compete in the luxury segment, but it seems like they are doing it all without Lincoln.
    That's Silicon Valley innovation.

Re: Lincoln Tenatively Planning Rear-Drive Coupe

Sadly, Lincoln is a dead brand walking. The undertone of Ford’s comments indicate that they are simply hoping for success instead of seizing it. If a dead brand like Lincoln doesn’t have the vision and inspiration to produce a beautiful sports coupe regardless of the success of two nice, but relatively modest models, like the MKZ and MKD, they don’t get it.

Any luxury brand worth their salt these days must produce a range toping flagship sedan and sports car. They are not the money makers but they are the statement makers; representing the pinnacle of luxury and excitement within the brand. If Lincoln doesn’t understand how that will elevate their brand, they won’t make it. What makes it worse is that Ford has a completely accessible Mustang chassis ready to build off, so it’s not like the entire project needs to be created from scratch. I’m not sure if it gets an easier for Lincoln.

Lincoln simply isn’t prepared to go the distance. Either they are going to build a full lineup and give the brand’s new generation of vehicles time to mature and gain traction or they will go out of business. Since the production of every vehicles hinges upon the success of the one before it, I doubt we’ll see Lincoln much longer.

Lincoln should be far beyond the "considering" stage. It's either do or die. And the cars better bring back the old Lincoln style since Cadillac seems to now be 100% into the small car business with its reluctance to build the Ciel.
And get rid of the stupid MKWhatever designations. Give the cars a name. An identity. Nobody but Lincoln fanatics pay any attention to the letters and they don't buy enough to keep the brand afloat.
Same goes for Cadillac. XTS, ATS, CTS... stupid. Give them an identity.

So, your opinion is completely unbiased............... right??

Just because you hate a company (I can't understand why someone would "hate" a company. It is a huge waste of time and energy), doesn't mean you have to be blind to reality. It just makes people not take anything you say, seriously.

Did Bill Ford burn down your house, or something??

Might be post of the year right there. Exchange hate with love and pull out the mirror.

The problem with Lincoln is that they appear to have zero direction or leadership right now. They act like they don't have any money to spend what-so-ever and they are going to produce a little better Ford hoping that it miraculously becomes a smash hit.

Just look at the title and you can see their problem. TENTATIVELY is never the right answer in the car business. You have to have decision makers at the highest levels who pick a direction with confidence and follow it.

Re: Lincoln Tenatively Planning Rear-Drive Coupe

If Buick decides to build a Riv, my money is on a coupe version of the LaCrosse. GM would be foolish in this day to build both an ATS coupe and a Riv coupe on the same platform. Back in the 90's or earlier, maybe. But with the company slimmed down so dramatically since, no. A large epsilon coupe could be unique enough to be successful as long as it's worth the price by being classy, modern, and luxurious enough.
Buy American. Buy Ford. So say we all!

Its tentative with considering if the MkZ and/or MkD fail, it wont happen.

If the MkZ and MkD are successful, then development will continue as it is now. In the sense, it is approved for production, but development would stop if the brand was killed off.

    Could've fooled me.

Lincoln needs to do this by offering a Lincoln coupe, a sedan, and a convertible on this platform. Lincoln also needs a large RWD flagship sedan that competes with the 7 Series and S Class.
Lincoln needs a large flagship sedan that competes with the A8. I don't think Lincoln intends to directly compete with Mercedes and BMW.
