    Lincoln to display compact crossover concept in Detroit

    Lincoln to display compact crossover concept in Detroit
    By Drew Johnson
    Thursday, Dec 6th, 2012

    Lincoln's rumored MKC compact crossover will reportedly make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The MKC, which will debut as a concept, is expected to be just the first of many new products aimed at reviving Ford's once thriving luxury brand.

    The MKC will be the first Lincoln vehicle to be designed completely under the leadership of Max Wolff. Lincoln lured Wolff from Cadillac's design studio in January 2011.

    The MKC will be based on Ford's redesigned Escape crossover. Little is known about the project at this time, but the compact CUV will likely borrow most of its styling cues from the Lincoln MKZ sedan.

    What FIN knows:

    Styling that that of tall hatch (Evoque, Audi Q3)
    - in other words, shorter in overall length/space than Escape
    Starts built in Louisville in October 2013
    We still have the name MkD being possibly used, but names can change overnight (ex. 500 to Taurus)

    Good luck to Lincoln - hopefully the new product will be well received. Things don't sound promising, but we don't know until we see it!

    I just saw Lincoln's new advertising on TV and don't think it hit the spot - too much reliance on the past. Plus I think they should wait until Lincoln has more new prouduct to relaunch the brand.

    This segment is quite crowded, and I anticipate a price advantage necessary to compete in this crowded segment.
    I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

    You are probably right, though I'm seeing Ford chassis and a lower than competition price. Sounds like they are remaking Lincoln into Mercury (Midlevel to near luxury) - a Buick competitor.

    not sure it is deliberate, but they do not nave the money to build anything that is not off of the Ford platform.

    Buick is not a bad standard to maintain - for now - .

    Then, shoot for better.

    Which shows you the utter genius at JLR because they will be able to charge a significantly higher price for a vehicle based on their revised variant of the C1/EUCD platform that the MK? is also based on.

    to me Mercury's "DNA" is quite distinct from Lincoln OR Ford
    so even at the same pricepoint, Merc wouldn't be the same as either sibling

    The twelve people that care will say it looks like a baby baleen whale.

    For such a "genius" Mullaly really effed up when he sold off JLR.
    All he had to do was nothing except 'sell em in China... then cha ching!! In come the billions.
    Instead they're going to waste billions on a dead brand walking that will never, ever command JLR money.

    Just brilliant.

    Lincoln is aiming at Buick, I guess. Not the way forward for the brand.

    so if Lincoln slides down market why do I buy a Lincoln over a Platinum Escape? as I assume they will "bump prices" or will the Fords get decontented?

    LR actually makes two form the one platform, the LR2 which sorta aligns with Lincoln's proposed MKC
    and Evoque which is a lot more expensive...if Lincoln was smart they would do something a little radical
    like perhaps, rebody C-max to suit up as something different like Caddy's ELR.....

    My Lincoln Line up:

    Escape = MKC
    C-Max = MKE
    Edge = MKX

    Fusion =MKZ
    Taurus = MKS

    Falcon = MKR Sdan
    Mustang = MKR Coupe

    Explorer = Aviator
    Flex = MKT...Brrrrrr No no no
    Explorer = Navigator

    If you're gonna have a bunch of "repanneled Fords" as Lincoln vehicles,
    at least have the decency to do a full line, be honest and just have a go.
    The Lincoln dealers will thank you for giving them plenty of products to sell
