DETROIT -- The Lincoln MKC Concept makes its world debut at the Detroit show Monday, the second vehicle in a new generation of Lincolns aimed at young upscale customers.

Lincoln hasn't said when the production version will arrive, but it could be in showrooms as early as a year from now.

The MKC Concept is Lincoln's vision for its entry in a small segment that's rapidly growing in importance: compact luxury crossovers.

The segment grew 60 percent in 2012 and tripled in size over the last four years, Lincoln says. The growth has been led by vehicles such as the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Range Rover Evoque.

Apparently Lincoln IS targeting Audi with their new vehicles.

Now, before I get crucified and torn apart, I say this because Audi has been the choice of young luxury buyers in recent times, and apparently this is the market Lincoln is attempting to enter. I'm not saying Lincoln is blatantly targeting Audi with anything other than target market. I think this renaissance has the potential to do that.

This is exactly the direction that Lincoln needs to go in.

Remember folks, Buick began its renaissance with a crossover as well and now look at it.

I agree. The majority of my friends dig Audi over BMW and MB. Me too. They don't give a **** about brands half as much as they just like what they like.

The exact car I'd compare this to is the Q5, and I would take IT over the Audi everyday.

Lincoln designers had to sculpt “multiple iterations” of the front end to get the proportions right on the MKC Concep
They should sculpt some more. With something totally different.

Despite the massive front grille, the impression it makes on me is that of "me-tooism". It is akin to Audi's crossovers with regard too that, they are "invisible vehicles" to me. If one just passed me, I wouldn't even remember what it was, it's so totally irrelevant and emotionless to me - much like most "premium crossovers", though somehow the X1, X3 and GLK stand out to me more, and I certainly do turn my head after every DS4 and DS5.

I wish Lincoln well, but I really cannot muster any emotion for this vehicle.

Excellent job Lincoln. Based solely on these pictures I'd take this over any other luxury crossover out there.

perhaps my biggest surprise so far is:
Lincoln made it a 'young' vehicle (as much as I can judge)
    without
    it also being immature

Holy ****balls. That's gorgeous, even with the trademark Lincoln grille (I think it works quite well here). Cadillac, the ball is in your court. Come up with something similar to this and maybe a bit more edgy, and you'll sell 40K in a year easily.

So, there you have it. Lincoln has delivered a Range Rover Evoque, a vehicle the opinion-leaders fall all over themselves every day gushing with praise, and overlook the Focus-roots while doing so. Major changes to production model would be a 5-seat layout and door handles.

The roof is nice. I wouldn't expect it to be standard. I'd also like to see a vista roof a la MKZ.

Hybrid would be nice too. AWD, 40 mpg around town, and it parks itself in tight spots. Really easy sell.

At last the truth is spoken!

I do not understand the enthusiasm for this thing, It's fine, yes. But its design is COMLETELY CONVENTIONAL. Nothing new or even interesting. It's a pastiche of designs already available from many other manufacturers.

The only interesting thing about it is that it has Lincoln badging.

I suppose we'll know more tomorrow after the press conference, but I haven't read anything that would indicate just why anyone would buy an MKC instead of an Audi or other such luxury crossovers.

They do? That's not my experience.

It looks nice enough. It should do reasonably well.

The interesting thing is that last year Audi sold a mere 7,200 A3s in the USA, I expect Lincoln to do much
better in 2014 and who cares if its a mix of existing styling elements, it hits the marks and will sell well..
