Their summary was "Coarse and unresponsive, poorly engineered and executed. A premium SUV? Pull the other one" and "If Jeep expects to be taken seriously by buyers who can afford a Land Rover, BMW, Audi or Mercedes-Benz, it simply must do better"
On price, the Jeep Cherokee range is competing head-on against LR Discovery Sport (LR2 replacement), Audi Q3, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA - at least that's the UK pricing.
typical UK automag pretentiousness to American vehicles. I personally think its ugly, but the driving experience is not bad, certainly nothing like what they described.
In Britain, the Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4 diesel cost 35,695 pounds, which equals $57,591.
In the U.S., the same vehicle with a gas engine costs $30,195. On the Grand Cherokee Limited, Jeep charges $4,500 for the diesel, so that would put the price of the Cherokee diesel at $34,695.
The fact that Jeep charges an extra $22,896 in Britain may explain why it is considered mediocre.
I know that mikmak recently had one and tested it; I haven't had a chance to read his write-up on it yet, but I'd be curious to get his impression as I know he treats the cars he tests as they were designed to be used. In a few pics I even saw some dirt on the tires, so lets hear it, mikmak!
