"Hyundai Brand Value Rises" - Biggest increase of automakers - No GM Brands in top 10

Quote:
BusinessWeek Calls Brand 'Big Winner'

* Jumps nine positions in Best Global Brands survey by
BusinessWeek/Interbrand
* Biggest increase of automakers

PRNewswire -- Hyundai Motor Co. has emerged as one of the world's leading brands ranking 75th overall, according to the 2006 Best Global Brands survey jointly conducted by Interbrand, a leading consultancy in branding and BusinessWeek, the New York-based global media organization. The 17 percent increase since last year in the value of the Hyundai brand earned the Korean automaker the title of fastest growing automotive brand and a place among the top five biggest gainers in brand value, causing the magazine to label Hyundai one of its "Big Winners".

Last year, in its debut appearance on the Best Global Brands list, Hyundai ranked 84th. With a brand value estimated at $4.1 billion, the power of the Hyundai brand on a global basis now surpasses several competitors. "This survey tells us what many people already know: That Hyundai is a fast-rising star," said Hyundai's Vice President for brand strategy, Brandon Yea. "Our brand management is supported by continuous improvement in the quality of our products," he added. Public perceptions of the Hyundai brand have been transformed as a result of dramatic improvements in the quality of Hyundai vehicles. In turn, this has fueled a steady increase in sales and confidence in the brand among both customers and dealers. Hyundai's pursuit of a better balance between quantitative and qualitative growth has benefited from the company's brand management. Brand management issues now influence decision-making in styling, marketing and communications as well as at the retail and after-sales service levels.

This is the advantage being the bottomfeeder, you can only go up! So in a few years GM will start to climb.

One problem here, what gobal brand does GM have? I know they are starting to sell chevys and caddys in europe but they are just starting to come over, and that is only in small numbers. GM is a company made of regional nameplates/brands not global ones, therefore it will do horribly on a global brand survey.

brianjkeller, that also applies to parts of the U.S. with large immigrant communities, like the Chinatown near me where Toyota and Honda reign supreme in the parking lots, and smaller brands and Domestic brands are hard to find.

I think people missed the point of my post. You can go to Asia, Europe, Australia, North America, Africa, and South America and by a ford, toyota, honda, mercedes, etc. However, can you go to Australia and buy a chevy, or do you buy holden the REGIONAL BRAND of gm? When you go to Europe do you buy a buick, pontiac, saturn, or gmc? When you are in the US how often do you pass the holden, vauxhall, or opel dealerships. All I was saying that the only global brand that I believe sells in any quantity (a few thousand caddys that were just introduced in Europe and China do not count) is saab. Since this was a global survey of individual brands where the US vote is equal to the China, India, Germany, etc. vote why would you expect any REGIONAL BRAND to score as well around the world as the other companies GLOBAL BRANDS on a survey that measures GLOBAL awareness.

If you asked Joe Public in the US how he rates Opel as a brand he might just tell you that he does not like jewelry. However in Germany they will talk to you about a car.

Reality bites . . .

Ford is up there because despite your respected opinion, one of Ford's main assets is its name and its history. Ford is a true American institution and that shows in a lot of ways. You think their cars are crap and I invite you to compare direct high volume competitors like the Fusion and the Malibu, the F-150 and the Silverado, the Edge and the Mustang to the . . . ups, never mind.

Not only Ford is up there, is right in the middle of the pack behind only to Toyota, Mercedes, BMW and Honda -not bad company, uh?-. Ford is ahead for example of Nissan which is about to take over GM -sorry for the oversimplification of the situation but the post responded here pretty much opened the door-.

So before you post another blunt example of your brilliancy and sophistication, ask your self why Chevrolet is not up there? Then feel free to bash Ford or the imports or whoever you want but at least you will have a little grip on the reality and you will also know the value of the honesty of your contribution.

As explained in other posts that you apparently did not read, Chevrolet is not up there because this is a "Best Global Brands" survey and you cannot buy a Chevrolet in many international markets.

Nissan is about to take over GM, huh? Who is the one who needs to get a little grip on reality?

And what exactly is the purpose of this survey, anyways? To tell us that if VW wanted to sell Audi, it should ask for $4.2 billion? That's useful information right there.

No disrespect to Hyundai, but I'm not putting much faith in anything that proclaims the Hyundai brand name to have more value than Porsche.

....yes missed the point..........india has the same vote as us and I guess that's because of population and not cars on the road which makes for a poor survey especially when you tack a worth of billions of dollars behind it.........
If it's perception in a name alone I really would like to know where they dream up the dollar figure

and if it is by name why isn't cadillac there...........everyone knows when you are shopping for something and you want the very best you call it the "cadillac"............

I find this meaningless. How many "brands" does GM have, Like 6 or 7?
