Even in the USA, there are places particularly in the American West that are arid today but were rain forests little more than a century ago. Let us not forget the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. The point is that there are many places on this Earth that could use a little artificial humidity.
As a gardener I agree and am very much drawn to greening the desert and reversing desertification. But people I know in Phoenix and northern California tell me that humidifying the air with pools and irrigation is causing problems for people who moved there due to dry air helping their breathing difficulties. I am one of those who has dreamed for years about greening the desert southwest plus terraforming Mars into a lush green wet world...both concepts have huge appeal to me. But, like I said, I am a lifelong gardener who loves green lush landscapes, hence my leaving Denver for my native Florida.
