So why does anybody expect people to buy cobalt that is also not so good quality. Or how about last malibu. it was uncompetitve from day 1. and it was just ugly. so why does anybody expect people to buy gm cars whey they ignore them for so long. Look what was happening with gm truck. They always made best truck and sales showed that. so why couldnt they use same formula for cars too? GM managers are idiot and they need to quiet. I think honda ceo is holding picture of rick in his office. Rick made honda and toyota what they are today. thank you rick and lutz.

I see your ID is a little more discrete this time--welcome back!

Now, let's look at what brand equity Chevrolet/GEO has invested in since 1980, just considering vehicles in the approximate size range as Civic and Accord:

Monza (dropped)
Chevette (dropped)
Sprint (dropped)
Spectrum (dropped)
Citation (dropped)
Nova (dropped)
Storm (dropped)
Cavalier (dropped)
Corsica (dropped)
Beretta (dropped)
Aveo
Malibu
Cobalt
HHR

...and we're hearing rumors that the Cobalt name is being dropped? Toyota and Honda have stayed the course with the Corolla/Camry and Civic/Accord, updating and improving each generation, building incredible brand equity for each nameplate.

The old third generation Cavalier was sold for 11 model years! Good grief, give me an aspirin.
You forgot Lumina too!!!!

yeah that isn't a good track record.... wow to see it all in print is pretty bad indeed!

The imports definitely got that right... brand recognition - improve and update!!!!

You're correct ... it'll become $5 or $6 gas. $4 certainly won't last.

I was trying to stick with the smaller cars, so I excluded Lumina/Impala/Monte Carlo, but there's no doubt that way too many nameplates have been used.

Please name all of their vehicles that have fuel economy figures that far outpace the domestics. All I can think of is the Fit. Any others?

It's an opinion that the Prius is the highest MPG car sold in America ? How do you figure that ? I'm going by the EPA's web site...

Prius
Civic hybrid
Camry hybrid

How's that for starters ?

If you need more, you've got the Yaris, the Jetta Diesel, etc.

Honda never played catchup with the Ridgeline. Ridgeline does not compete with other fullsize or midsize trucks. Their target markets are different.

You might not know this, but better than 80% of all small car purchases are for Auto Transmissions. GM's manual numbers are, in certain instances, competitive. Their Auto Tran numbers are not. I think I posted the numbers for comparison a couple of weeks back, and GM's numbers for the Aveo and Cobalt are dreadful when you compare Auto's to Auto's, especially for city mileage.

The request was: what vehicles does Honda make. Honda does not make the Prius, the Camry hybrid, the Yaris or the Jetta diesel. The Civic hybrid is available in very limited quantities. Less than 10% of Civics sold are hybrids. Further, the Civic hybrid's real world mileage is quite debatably lower than its EPA ratings. The regular Civic's mileage milage is no better than a Cobalt XFE.

Toyota makes the Prius, Camry hybrid and Yaris. Toyota's U.S. sales will be lower this year than its 2007 sales.

As I said before...this thread began with the announcement that Honda is having a banner sales year even as GM slumps even more badly with its stock plummeting while losing tens of billions of dollars.....Honda must be doing something right to enjoy these brisk sales that speak for themselves.
