This will be an interesting test of the market for acceptance of a diesel in a mainstream car. Sounds like great fuel efficiency, so will enough people be willing to make the leap? Lots can happen between now and then regarding fuel price and availability.

Re: Honda Confirms 2009 Accord Diesel, CR-Z Hybrid for Production

I think Honda's diesels make great practical sense, the question is are enough people willing to switch to diesel? I'd be more than willing to drive a diesel but many people unfortunately are turned off by it. Does anyone know, does the new low sulfer diesel smell better (or not as bad)?

40 mpg Accords?

Odysseys, Pilots and Ridgelines with 30% improved mileage?

It is going to take more than the Volt to compete. Japan, Inc. does not stand still.

It's a smaller, lighter car - and not quite as choked off as the 2009 US version will be - but I'd still expect over 40 mpg.

The one thing that concerns me is that the SMALLER Euro Accord - lighter than a 2003-2007 US Accord and far lighter than a 2008 US Accord - took 9.5 seconds to go from 0-62. The link above did not show hp/torque numbers, so maybe that was an older version of the 2.2 liter Honda diesel and the new US one's 150 hp/260 lb-ft will do better.

Re: Honda Confirms 2009 Accord Diesel, CR-Z Hybrid for Production

It's going to be interesting to see how they market it, and how well it sells.

Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda all offered diesel cars back in the 1980s. I don't think any of them sold all that well. Might have been spillover from GM's debacle. Or just the cost, weak acceleration, and the fact that gas prices had moderated by the time they got here.

VW and Mercedes have had much better luck with diesels.
