I know I'm gonna be shot for saying this, but I like the overall style of the 5-series, though the Touring is my least favorite iteration. I generally like Bangle's work, and I think he should be congratulated for his efforts at building more polarizing style for BMW. While there are many who clearly dislike his design direction, there appear to be those definitely in favor of his work. I count myself among them. I see more and more new 5's on the road, and I find myself quite smitten with them.

And I certainly like the looks of the new 5 more so than the vehicle it replaces. Although that Teuton performed quite well, I never got why people were so taken with its rather vanilla looks. Maybe they were caught up in the marque's cachet? Maybe they only cared about performance?

And spy photos of the new 3 and 4-series lend me to believe that more sweet stuff is on the way!

Just my 2 cents.

I am not a fan of this. The standard 5 series is growing on me, but this is a big step back, IMO.

tgagneguam, i agree completely with everything you said. i really like bangals work, even though each piece takes a bit to fully grow on me, that is the sign of innovation i think. it takes a lot of guts to take such a successful brand and be extremely daring with the styling and while many people don't like it, it seems to be working fine for them as i have not heard anything about them really struggling to sell their new cars. the only thing i disagree with you on is that, although i like the new cars, i still think the old 5 series was a beautiful car also

perhaps if the goal is to get new buyers into the fold, or introduce a totally new look to the brand... but i used to like the BMW look, and don't see much (if any) original BMW dan in the 5-series (sedan or touring) beyond the propellor badge. these new models don't look like updated versions to me... thye look like new versions. can't say i like them. no, the touring is especially dorky... gone are the beautiful, perfect proportions of BMW's gone by. these don't look taut and agile to me... they look lumbering and ackward.

(for any of you canadian, GTA members... have you seen the BMW dealership at the gardiner/DVP intersection? the big, multi-level building with the vending-mechine design? brilliant! gotta see it travelling south towards the lake!)
