GE Teams Up With Honda for New Jet Engine

General Electric Joins Forces With Honda Motor Co. to Launch New Jet Engine
Tuesday October 12

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- General Electric Co. has joined forces with Honda Motor Co. to launch the Japanese automaker's new jet engine, officials announced Tuesday.

The two companies have established a joint venture company, GE Honda Aero Engines LLC, to manufacture Honda's HF118 turbofan engine.

The new company will begin operating at the end of this year in Cincinnati, Ohio, where GE Transportation's aircraft engine business is headquartered.

The HF118 engine has run more than 2,400 hours in ground tests and more than 450 hours in flight tests. GE and Honda officials say they hope to be suppliers for a growing market of small, less expensive business jets that seat only four to eight passengers. They envision a future market of 200 or more business jets each year.

I can see it now:

Honda's Vilocity HF118 compact jet airplane type R.
twin turbine turbochargers blow extra air into the jet engine and develops and astonoshing 3700hp at 52,000RPM and 1200lb/ft of torque at 50,000rpm
Up from its standard 2700hp at 49,5000RPM and 1100lb/ft of torque at 48,000RPM
The jet engine's redline occurs at 50,000RPM
For comparison the leading competitors jet engine produces 3200hp at 35,000RPM and 2200lb/ft torque at 25,000RPM

Honda's trying to take over the world! They already have their hand in jet engines (now), vehicles, ATV's, lawnmower engines, small tiny engines of any kind, and even motorcycles. Ive seen a show on discovery channel and they needed a boat engine so they got one from honda, and what they got is the 3.5L VTEC engine with a propeller attached. (which is their boat motor)

Well, they are the biggest supplier of engines in the world. Heck, craftsman mowers are starting to offer them instead of Briggs.

So just like in their car engines, you have to over-rev them in order to make them produce any usable Hp... Plus, I don't know a drop about jet engines. But I would venture to guess that 1,000 less lb/ft of torque would be a big deal...
