Ford TwinForce V6 Offically Unveiled

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/d...e-engine-line/

Quote:
Touted as a means to give V8-like horsepower with V6 fuel economy, the TwinForce V6 at this year's Detroit Auto Show stands as one of Ford's biggest announcements so far. Started with the Duratec 35 as a foundation, the engine's combination of turbocharging and direct injection yields a claimed 415 HP and 400 ft-lb of torque - more than enough to smoke any naturally-aspirated V8 currently offered by the Blue Oval here in the United States.

The engine also offers flex-fuel capabilities, with operation possible on either premium gasoline or E85. Ford also claims 15% better fuel economy than a 6.0L V8 of similar performance, so the tire-smoking can commence with reduced guilt. There's no word yet as to whether the new motor can take advantage of the superior knock resistance of ethanol to provide a horsepower bump, but this seems like an ideal platform on which to roll out such a feature. The horsepower junkies among us might also want to consider that an injector sized to flow enough E85 for 400+ HP will probably support at least 600 HP on gasoline, so the aftermarket should have a field day with turning up the wick on the TwinForce.

Good statistics. I hope it works out for Ford.

Sounds good... ethanol looks like a dog, though. Already using 50% of corn for a measly drop in the bucket. When we run out of tacos, the public will revolt... but anyway, maybe we should see a little Direct Injection on a production Duratec.

So.....will they actually build this engine or is this a case of engineering by press release? The Saab Aero X concept supposedly had a 400-hp 2.8L twin-turbo V-6 running on bioethanol, but that engine has no production plans.

Re: Ford TwinForce V6 Offically Unveiled

I think GM should have an answere to this enginge.

Also what about the revived car/truck enginge 6.2-liter V-8 engine program, dubbed the Hurricane

http://www.fordmuscle.com/blog/fords...tle-hemi/11283

Could Ford be on the up and up for the new engine wars? only time will tell,

It's supposed to be offered in the Lincoln MKS, since they decided to go in this direction rather than with the Yamaha V8 currently in the Volvo XC90 and S80. This sucker out-powers the Yamaha V8 by 100 horsepower!

Re: Ford TwinForce V6 Offically Unveiled

Just like in the 1980's (with Buick), I'm glad to see turbocharging is coming back, at least in a limited role here.

Ford should develop a Corvette-class halo car that won't disappear after a few years (like the GT40)......then drop this sucker on in as a base powerplant at the very least.

Also, I'm wondering if this would be a viable engine option for the Interceptor? The figures look good on paper.......

Oh......and if Ford is going to continue to bring us 'special' or 'limited' editions of the Mustang.......I'd take a look at the platform and see if this could be shoehorned on in there......

Re: Ford TwinForce V6 Offically Unveiled

SO it's a "V" instead of a straight 6 with twin turbo's

A bit BMW 335 to my eyes

Ford I doubt can pull it off with out blowing pistons out of the block or the production version will be "detuned"

It was nice reading this article, as a break from the prior articles about new Ford products. The numbers look good for this engine. Now if Ford could only get the appearance of their cars and trucks to look good, they might have something.

Are you being paid by Exxon or something? We're not using 50% of our corn for fuel. Isn't there some anti-global warming site where you can post such blatant lies?

Re: Ford TwinForce V6 Offically Unveiled

Besides the Mustang, I wondered if this engine could also go under the hood of the Aussie Falcons as well?
And it could be a opportunity for a future Mercury Cougar to reborn or a Cyclone.

I wish... I just don't think ethanol is going to be viable. I'd be happy as a clam if I were wrong... do check out the corn futures prices when you get a chance, however.
