Re: Ford sues Navistar International (supplier of Power Stroke)

I know many GM people who bought a Powerstroke (especially before Duramax) just because of the engine, even though the vehicle is a Ford. Many have good luck, high regard for International tractors and trucks. I just wonder if the engines still have ACDelco starters on them, since that what International used...

Re: Ford sues Navistar International (supplier of Power Stroke)

I think the "who is footing the warranty bill" stems from Ford's need to mount their engines deep in the firewall in the engine bay.

Sure the early the 6.0's weren't quality at it's best, and Ford has a foot to stand on there as they were handed over maybe a somewhat not "up to par" product.

But, when the 6.0's were having their head gasket failure problems, the head bolts were too long to come out since the engine was mounted so deep in the engine bay therefore either the whole cab had to come off or the engine had to be completely taken out. This lead to major labour costs, hence large warranty cost for Ford since the majority of these cases were happening within the warranty period.

The 6.0 has a really nice turbo sound to it though.

LOL! GM can't even make a decent one for their own trucks. I guess everone wanted these "awesome" diesels, so all manufacturers went out and got someone to build theirs for their light duty trucks. There are still a great many of 20+/- year old Cummins engines still on the road in Dodge trucks. Of course, the rest of the truck is about to fall apart. But, in a few years we will be saying the same thing about the GM and Fords that are running well, but bodies falling off!!!

Re: Ford sues Navistar International (supplier of Power Stroke)

There is probably more to this than the story says........
Maybe Navistar should stop all shipment to Ford until the case is settled

IMO this is more about the over all financial position of Ford than the price of an engines

I think this is a very accurate analysis. But it does put a severe kink in it's supply situation I'd have to say.

Re: Ford sues Navistar International (supplier of Power Stroke)

I would love to see Navistar cease the shipment of engines to Ford. I have a feeling Ford tried to lowball the price of the new 6.4l, and unlike most suppliers who just bend over and take it, Navistar told them to get bit and charged them the correct, non-ford manipulated price.

It will be interesting.

Re: Ford sues Navistar International (supplier of Power Stroke)

this is not the way to do business with a valued partner.

And the duramax is a rock solid engine, there have just been things that needed to get worked out. First there were the injector issues, and those are fixed, then there was the glow plug tips that needed a reprogram, but those issues aside, which Gm has taken care of, the Duramax is awesome.

I'm sure the fine folks in Moraine Ohio (that's the USA) would like to tell you about how the Duramax is built, since they have been building them there for the last 6 years. Who cares if "Isuzu" designed it? If it works well and North Americans build it I'll buy it.

It's also ironic that for all the hype about the aluminum heads on the D-max and how they were going to have all these head gasket failures, the all iron 6 liter Ford had issues.

Ford should have found a way to get Navistar to improve the 7.3, that was a rock solid engine.

And to the folks in Moraine, I have two of your diesels in my driveway. A 2006 D-max and a 1993 6.5 with half a million plus on it, thanks for your great work.
