Talking Ford Motor Company Reports January U.s. Sales Increased 2 Percent

FORD MOTOR COMPANY REPORTS JANUARY U.S. SALES INCREASED 2 PERCENT

Sales of Ford's new mid-size cars increased 25 percent in January compared with December. Sales of Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr totaled 14,714.
Total car sales were 82,710, up 18 percent compared with a year ago.
Ford's F-Series truck up 7 percent; total truck sales declined 7 percent.
Land Rover reports record January sales, up 34 percent.

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1 – Ford Motor Company's January U.S. sales increased 2 percent compared with a year ago. Car sales increased 18 percent and truck sales declined 7 percent – continuing trends seen in 2005. Last year, Ford posted its first car sales increase since 1999.

Ford's new mid-size sedans – the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr – continued to gain momentum. Combined sales for the trio totaled 14,714, up 25 percent compared with December. In contrast, Ford estimates U.S. industry sales declined 20 percent from December to January, reflecting historical seasonal patterns. January's sales for the new mid-size sedans translate to an annual sales rate of 220,000 – well above Ford's original estimates.

Ford's F-Series truck, America's best selling vehicle for 24 years in a row, posted January sales of 52,771 up 7 percent. Sales for most other light trucks declined.

Land Rover dealers reported record January sales of 3,693, up 34 percent. After achieving record sales in 2005, Land Rover continues to benefit from its new models – the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and LR3

Highlights

Total Ford cars UP 27.7%
Five-Hundred UP 32.6%
Mustang UP 9%

Nothing like the horrible predictions of negative 10% that were everywhere in the media. Hopefully it will be the same thing for GM in a few hours.

Much Better Then Expected!

Good for them!

Is anyone making more money than Land Rover?

$65K for an LR3 with fancy headlamps - Brilliant!

Nice to see the Explorer/Expedition/Chicago Triplets bouncing back!

Wow - The Lincoln Zephyr outsold the Mercury Milan?

Hmmm. Very interesting. I think Ford has finally returned to the passenger car sales game.

Re: Ford Motor Company Reports January U.s. Sales Increased 2 Percent

This was one pleasant surprise. Well, I guess that their plans are working. If sales pick up and the company effectively reduces their production capacity Ford can become a little American jewel. I like the way things are going. Way too soon to claim victory though.

Ford dumped a lot of cars into rental fleets. Taurus, Fusion, et. al.

Ford's sales had a ``heavy fleet component,'' said company sales analyst George Pipas in a conference call.

Oh, than it's gospel.

And from your quote, majority does not equal totality.

Read my reply above. Yes, majority maybe those two. But that doesn't mean ALL of the fleet sales were those two cars.

Re: Ford Motor Company Reports January U.s. Sales Increased 2 Percent

I don't know why everyone in here is blowing sunshine up each others a$$.

Retail sales at Ford actually FELL in January by a staggering 7% It's only the massive profitless fleet sales that led to an overall increase.

Meanwhile Toyota (up 15%) and Honda (up 20%) are face sitting on Ford with the majority of thier increase at the profitable retail level.

I don't think this is news to cheer over is it?

He is not saying that ALL of the fleet sales were CVs and Taurus. He is dismissing the notion implied by you in your first post in this thread, that there was a high number of Fusion dumped into fleets.
