it seems this is not a bogus story - they are actually doing it !!!! ... The Transit-Connects are great vehicles - they are a direct answer to HHR Panel Van More info on Transit-Connect: http://ford.co.uk/ns7/transitconnect/-/-/-/-/-/- Igor Last edited by igor : 01-02-2007 at 03:32 PM. |

Re: Ford to import Transit Connects from Turkey, start US production in 2009
Geez, anyone who knows me knows that my potential purchase list for my next car just got re-evaluated. At least as an eventual replacement for my Safari some day. Hopefully GM will offer something similar by 2010.
Maybe they'll consider the Transit as well, and not just the Transit Connect? ![]()

Will this replace the Econoline Vans? The Transit is supposedly a great vehicle, but not sure what kinda rep the Transit Connect has....

Those Transit Connects are hideous (even moreso than the Dodge Sprinter)......the regular Transit (that Ming posted) is alot better, more in line with what I'd think of when I think of an Econoline replacement

Re: Ford to import Cargo Van Transit Connects from Turkey, start US production in 2009
The T-C is an HHR-PanelVan fighter.. not an Econoline replacement.
This is a car based utility van ... there is nothing similar offered in Ford's lineup right now (especially after the demise of Focus Wagon), and this will be a nice "green" car to offer to people complaining about gas prices. The T-C has won a lot of praise, because it is one of FEW EU-market small Utility Vans specifically built to be utility vans. Others follow the path of HHR-PanelVan - they are wagons of passenger models offered with no rear seats and no rear windows - TransitConnect is offered with 2 wheelbases, and more space out back because of its ground-up design. PS: Rumor has it the regular Transit is also being evaluated. Igor |

The Transit Connect reminds me a bit of the Holden/Suzuki Cruze (once also badged as a Chevrolet in Japan) - but with (much) more of a cargo area - or perhaps one of the less attractive versions of the WagonR:

It's about damn time. Wonder if Mulally made this call. Good go Ford. Hope they bring all models over. The dealers have to love this.

Re: Ford to import Cargo Van Transit-Connect from Turkey, start US production in 2009
Also - the only engines available on the EU versions of the T-C are 1.8 Duratec (gas) and 1.8l Duratorq (Diesel) .. this might be the first small Ford diesel at US market. It might also signal, that Ford is ready for the diesel war - sooner than we thought.
But there is always a chance, they will simply equip them with the EU Focus D20 2.0l Doratec engines and call it a day. Or jus import the 1.8l 115hp gasser. Igor |

And I was just thinking that what this country needs is a good Turkish delivery van. It will look good sitting on dealer lots right next to the Mexican sedans.
