Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
FORD DEVELOPS WORLD'S FIRST ETHANOL-FUELED HYBRID MARRYING TWO GASOLINE-SAVING TECHNOLOGIES
Ford Motor Company's innovative new research vehicle - the Ford Escape Hybrid E85 - is the world’s first hybrid vehicle Another Ford Innovation * Ford’s Escape Hybrid E85 can operate on renewable ethanol-based fuel. * If just 5 percent of the U.S. vehicle fleet were powered by hybrids operating on E85 ethanol, oil imports could be reduced by about 140 million barrels a year. * Escape Hybrid E85 produces about 25 percent less carbon dioxide than a gasoline-fueled Escape Hybrid – already the world’s cleanest and most fuel-efficient small SUV. ![]() ![]() FULL TEXT AT: http://media.ford.com/article_displa...&make_id=trust |

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
E85 + electric hybrid makes so much sense, just that Ford thought of it first. Hindsight is 20/20.
I remember some companies (one of them is Mercedes Benz? I forgot) are developing diesel + electric hybrid. So, that's coming along too. |

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
Now that is a great way to save on gas lol. If I had that kinda money to spend on a new vehicle I would buy me one of these. This is a nice approach to attach the pruis...!

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
Ford and GM need this kind of innovative thinking. I don't think the DOD systems that GM is using will cut it in the next couple of years.

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
That's all great to hear, it's a better idea for a hybrid but when is Ethanol going to be widely available?

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
That E85 Escape Hybrid pretty much means that Ford has developed a flex fuel version of the 2.3L Duratec motor, since the 2.3L i4 is the gas-burning half of Ford's hybrid system. Maybe we will see E85 Mazda3, Mazda6, Fusion, Focus, non-hybrid Escape, etc in the near future.
If you look at the bottom of that Ford Media page, Ford is rolling out the E85 5.4L F-150. It's a month old news, but I just noticed. So, GM isn't the only one with flex fuel fullsize trucks. http://media.ford.com/article_displa...ticle_id=22191 |

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
And what about the dual hybrid system that GM is working on? Isn't that innovation? What about the EV1 and hybrid buses and trains? Don't those count for something? What about all of the advanced engine technology that Saab and GM are working on (I think something called variable compression) and another technology to end the use of spark plugs?
GM has done tons of innovation, and they still innovate today. They just don't get the credit for it. |

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
Biodiesel hybrid would be even better. Doesn't use any petro at all! And the car smells like French fries! And there are no sulfur oxides or soot! And the fuel is almost always FREE! Sure it takes some skill to refine it, but it's not terribly difficult.

Re: Ford Develops World's First Ethanol-Fueled Hybrid
My parents used to own and run a restaurant. We emptied the lard from the deep fryer about once every 4 days or so. We would have about 4 gallons of the stuff and we had to pay some city agency money to pick them up and depose of them; it wasn't a large amount, but it was still money. If someone came along and asked us for the used oil, we would have gladly given it to them.
But, I don't think there is enough free used lard to go around for everyone. Free market economy will eventually catch up. |
