DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Ford Motor Co. (F) will delay delivery of its new Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover vehicles as it irons out problems at its Oakville, Ont., manufacturing complex, company officials said Tuesday.
The company initially said it would deliver the car-based crossover vehicles to dealerships in November, but that now has been delayed until sometime in December.

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. will delay delivery of its new Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover vehicles as it irons out problems at its Oakville, Ontario, manufacturing complex, company officials said Wednesday

The company initially said it would deliver the car-based crossover vehicles to dealerships in November, but that now has been delayed until an unspecified date in December.

Several thousand of the vehicles have been built and all meet Ford's quality standards, but Ford wants to make sure all of its manufacturing processes are working correctly before delivering the vehicles, Joseph R. Hinrichs, vice president of North American manufacturing, said in an interview with The Associated Press.
"The product's ready. We want to make sure that our process is equally ready to deliver, on a consistent basis, the quality and the timeliness of the deliveries that our dealers and our customers expect," Hinrichs said.

Re: Ford Delays Delivery of Edge Crossover

they set a precedent with the Fusion/Milan/Zephyr of having bug-free cars going to customers from the start, and I applaud Ford for realizing how much more the customers and dealers were satisfied with a high level of build quality from the start

I think this was a great move too since this while ensure that they are doing a good job on getting the quality up like in the old days "Quality is Ford Job #1"

You would be surprised how little Mazda is actually in the Edge. Apart from the CD3 platform, or just the underpinnings of it all, it is completely different. Maybe the Fusion isn't much different from the Mazda, but the Edge has a lot more that had to be designed by Ford. It isn't like you can take a Mazda 6 and slap a Ford Edge badge on it....

If ford had planed from the start to allow the plant work out all of the little bugs they wouldn’t bet late.

Re: Ford Motor Co. delays Edge/MKX due to manufacturing problems

I wonder what it is. And if it warrants repairing all of the ones already produced.

Not good news.

If that what it takes for the launch to be as flawless as the Fusion/Milan/Zephyr's, then so be it.

Glad Ford has learned not to release anything unless every little bit has been thoroughly verified and re-verified.

Had you read the article, it would have answered your question.

Quote:
Several thousand of the vehicles have been built and all meet Ford's quality standards, but Ford wants to make sure all of its manufacturing processes are working correctly before delivering the vehicles, Joseph Hinrichs, vice-president of North American manufacturing, said in an interview.

"The product's ready. We want to make sure that our process is equally ready to deliver, on a consistent basis, the quality and the timeliness of the deliveries that our dealers and our customers expect," Hinrichs said.

Ford has critical check points to watch hundreds of assembly line work stations and wants to make sure quality is consistent with all the stations before rolling out the vehicle, he said.

"We're not yet to the level where the consistency is where we want it to be to launch the vehicles," he said.

The pertinent quote.
