A keen eyed reader from the desert sent us these pictures of the upcoming Mazda6 based Ford Fusion (formerly Futura). These include what we believe to be the first pictures of the Fusion's interior! This car was easily identified because of the Ford 427 styling cues in the front end shot!

Please credit GMI when referencing these pics!

Well, from what I can see it looks pretty good. The interior looks pretty nice and well layed out. Hopefully we will see official pics before 2005!

Since when did GMI become FI?

I love the 427 styling... I just hope the headlights and grill retain that look.

Need to see more uncovered pics though.

Sold!

The interior styling looks awesome and the exterior is definately using cues from the 427 concept, especially at the grill, but the headlights and brakelights are still up in the air. Methinks they will follow the Five Hundred's styling. But otherwise nicely done; makes the car a lot more tangible when you actually have real photos to look at. Odds are that it'll get even more tangible in the coming months with more pictures and eventual car shows that'll feature it as it nears its launch date in early 2005. But seriously, how is it that I get more news about Ford products here than I do at an actual pro-Ford website?

Hmmm...the Exterior from what I can see seems okay. The interior is hard to judge, I'd need more photos to give a fair assessment. Either way it can't be as horrendous as the Taurus. Its based on the Mazda 6, it should be a good car. Now if Ford would wise up and give the US the Euro Focus....

Well, part of that about the interior's apparent size could be because of all the equipment sitting in it, and, given that Ford hasn't officially shown this car off to the public, there may still be some leftover changes to be taken care of. And don't worry about the European Focus, it'll come for 2008, if not at least all Foci will be standardized globally. I think part of the reason why we don't have the Euro Focus now is because Ford wants to shift attention toward the Fusion which is going to be in a segment that Ford doesn't currently have a strong presence in; something smaller than a Taurus or Five Hundred, but bigger than a Focus.

Nothing all that spectacular in my eyes. A bit boring interior. Not too sure aobut the exterior lines at this point either.

We'll see.

interior will be the same size as the mazda6, so if that's too small for you then this will be too. the grille suggests 427 for sure... which is a good thing! the fusion has potential... it'll probably have the visual oomph the 500 is missing.

Thank you! For a minute there I was worried that I might be the only person that feels the interior lacks character and is completely generic and brand-less.

At least its on a Ford, which makes me feel better. Let's lobby for more boring Ford interiors!

I just read that Ford has no plans to bringing the European Focus to the states. They say its too expensive and that they are unsure of the quality. They don't want the recall problems they had at the initial Focus launch. I think its just Ford being cheap. The S40 and Mazda 3 are using the platform and they are already putting the Euro Foci's engines in 1st gen Focus platform. They are just penny pinching and with Toyota smacking them around they can't afford to be cheap. I mean it wasn't the platform that caused the recall....it was the rest of the car. I mean the chassis wan't recalled.....it was just everything else attached to it :roflmao:

I have to say that from what I can see I really like it. I don't think that Ford will follow Five Hundred styling on this one, since the Five Hundred is already scheduled for a face lift in 18 to 24 months. I think that Ford has already seen the errors of their ways with the Five Hundred.

As for the interior of the Fusion, it looks much like that of the European produced Mondeo, which is fine. My only concern is that Ford becomes more risk adverse and moves too far away from the 427 concept. Come on Ford, give us something edgy. Something that will get everyone talking.

I also like the 427 exterior, though it'll be interesting to see how it translates to the Fusion.

I think the interior on this looks terrible though. It looks like it's from the late '80s. It looks cheap, uninspired and has no character at all.

One small detailed criticism. Does anyone else think the Tach and the Speedo look too far apart?
