Exclusive: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Revealed

DETROIT — Chrysler is preparing a full redesign of its midsize Sebring sedan for model-year 2007, with all-new sheet metal and a completely revamped cabin.

The next-generation Sebring, which goes into production this fall, will be built on a new platform and reportedly will share some underbody components with several Mitsubishi vehicles, including the new Outlander and Lancer.

The base Sebring this fall is expected to share the new global four-cylinder engines from the upcoming Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber, with an optional V6 also available.

Chrysler is dropping the Sebring coupe but will introduce a redesigned Sebring convertible in spring 2007, using many of the same chassis and driveline components from the new Sebring sedan.

What this means to you: Never competitive with Honda and Toyota, Chrysler hopes the next-generation Sebring sedan will finally give it more muscle in the midsize segment.

Re: Edmunds Exclusive: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Revealed

I can't wait to see what these cars look like. The front end look kind of hints that the car will have a look akin to the Chrysler CrossFire or even the AirFlite concept.

Also, if you look at the hood of the car, you can see the "grooves" that are running the lenght of the hood, just like on the CrossFire. This has also appeared on the new Aspen SUV -- could this be a new Chrysler specific sytling cue that will migrate to other vehicles?

I know the Stratus name is going to be supplanted for a return to the Avenger nameplate -- I hoep they make it look good and agressive. No need to have two cars that look identical like the current Sebring/Stratus look.

I'm sorry to see the coupe go (at least on the Sebring), but hope they retain the Avenger (nee Stratus) coupe for the Dodge side. There is no need for a Dodge convertible, but a proper 2-door coupe would be good to retain the lineup. I was always a fan of the coupe -- even though it was down on power and shared too much with the Eclipse -- I though it was rather sytlish. I hope that now that they are taking production in-house and will undoubtedly save money, they'll retain the coupe.

Re: Edmunds Exclusive: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Revealed

It actually looks pretty decent in person.

There won't be a Dodge Avenger convertible, as far as I know, but the Avenger will get variants of the JS platform that the Sebring won't.

I've got pictures of a JC crossover mule, and if the editors for my school paper actually decide to lay off on XL crap just a bit to run it for this Wednesday, I'll link it here. If not, I'll possibly break it somewhere else.

Re: Edmunds Exclusive: 2007 Chrysler Sebring Revealed

still waiting for a malibu g6 refresh (not a wisk over like the malibu just got a year ago) gm...and really wanting their redesign for MY2007 not 2010....way late and still losing market share AGAIN. ... AND JOBS AGAIN...AND CUSTOMERS AGAIN.

If they put in the same effort the put into the world class 900's and the vette into the midsize cars and econo size...this company would be in excellenct shape instead of a 8.6 BILLION dollar loss. sorry everyone for putting that up again, but its true.

I like it a lot. That's hard to say for most test mules...even the "almost nude" mules much like this one. The hood strakes are great.

Look underneath to resemble the 300. I guess we will have to wait until it is uncovered.
