Don't Call It a Datsun: Nissan to Launch Tiida Compact in U.S. Next Year
Don't Call It a Datsun: Nissan to Launch Tiida Compact in U.S. Next Year
Date Posted 06-15-2005 TOKYO — Because small cars from Japan are getting hotter in the U.S., Nissan is moving up its launch of the Tiida to the second half of next year, filling out the space beneath Sentra. It's been an open secret for some time now that Nissan wanted to do a new small U.S. car that's based on its domestic B platform. While speculation so far has centered on the Cube, a boxy tall wagon, coming to the U.S., Nissan will be testing the Gen X and Y waters with the Tiida long before that. The next-generation Cube is on track for the U.S., but with sales of the first cult edition still strong, Nissan's in no hurry to rush through a replacement. More: |

You know what that is, don't you?
It's a Renault Megane with a Nissan badge. Renault Megane. http://img223.echo.cx/img223/545/renaultmegane0eb.png Nissan Tiida. http://car-reviews.automobile.com/im...s/30723/01.jpg The Tiida (gee what a Lousy name) is the result of the Nissan and Renault Joint-Venture. Nissan wanted to learn how to make more "funky" looking cars and Renault wanted to teach to the Japanese how to build cars on Friday afternoons. Of course, Honda and Toyota refused the invitation, but since Nissan was desperate to come up with some funky car, they accepted the French invitation. And then we had the results, such as the ugly Nissan Platina sold in Mexico, and this another fugly thing sold only to the Asian markets: China, Japan and Thailand. |

yep, menage rebadge... which means it'll be pretty good for the 10-15k market here in the US. euro compacts are far better than that class is in the US (astra, euro focus vs ion, american focus), so this should be fully competitive in the lower-compact market. if it's gonna be sub-sentra it'll cost less than the cobalt, maybe as much as the ion, and will hopefuly have a 2-door model like the Sport Compact concept. the next sentra must also be pretty good if they think they menage can slot under it.

Nissan's merger with Renault will haunt them for years to come in the design dept. The Quest and Maxima are ugly. This thing worse. Their Armada/QXwhatever SUVs are unsightly. I know Goshen turned the company around, but I don't think they're styling their new cars well. What are Nissan's sales figues like?

Good for Nissan. This country needs more small cars. Looks like a car I'd consider. |

Thank G-d, my prayers are being answered!!!!!
Thank you Nissan for bringing over the Tiida!!! You're starting to fufill a prediction/plea that I posted, which is good news, 'cause that means great vehicles are coming from the JDM . Now, I can't wait to see if the others come here. |

What an ugly little car. I like the sport coupe concept, but the 4 door hatchback is fugly. Nice for Nissan to choose such a nasty color to put on that car.
Tiida's should only come in black to cover that bad design up a bit. |
Re: Don't Call It a Datsun: Nissan to Launch Tiida Compact in U.S. Next Year
I am sure it will sell fairly well for Nissan. If gas stays the same then the American market will tilt toward smaller cars.

I love the Megane... but I'm pretty sure it's bigger than the Sentra.

Sans their interiors, of course, I believe Nissan makes a few attractive vehicles.
This is not one of them. |
Re: Don't Call It a Datsun: Nissan to Launch Tiida Compact in U.S. Next Year
Are they ever going to redesign the Sentra?

Re: Don't Call It a Datsun: Nissan to Launch Tiida Compact in U.S. Next Year
Hopefully not, grisworld44...lol! But, this new car looks alot like the Megane, which I like. It has a really stupid name though! I think it will be neat to have a Euro compact car in the U.S! But, I really shouldn't be saying all of this because it isn't helping GM any...

Re: Don't Call It a Datsun: Nissan to Launch Tiida Compact in U.S. Next Year
no, no, no.. not a Tiida sedan... that's likely the canned sentra that was shown to people in 2004 and rejected for being ugly and boring. the bones may be similar or even the same (i think the sentra's gonna be a bit longer and shorter (height) though), but the skin will not stay the same. the 2007 sentra is said to look like a baby altima... this looks like a baby quest with a backpack on.

What is it with Nissan and their grilles? The front end of the Tiida looks just as bad and the Nissan Quest.
