Dodge has announced a new version of the Challenger muscle car that will be even more extreme than the vaunted Hellcat. Named Demon, the company’s next hot rod is scheduled to make its official debut in April at the New York Auto Show.

The Fiat-owned brand explains the upcoming model will raise the bar in terms of power and speed. Nothing is official yet, but we’re inclined to believe it will boast more grunt than the 707-horsepower Hellcat (pictured). The Demon could also use a high-performance version of the new Challenger GT‘s all-wheel drive system to transfer its power to the asphalt.

“Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed, and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation,” explained Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis.

"Dodge has upgraded the brakes, the steering system, and the suspension, and it looks like the Demon receives a set of extra-wide wheels. The second teaser video also"

Article talks about specific hood and revised suspension, so maybe lighter suspension components and a carbon fiber hood?

EDIT: The picture highlights suspension components and wheels. Is it like algebra and the answer is right in front of us? Maybe carbon fiber wheels, aluminum or carbon fiber chassis components?

Aluminum block Hemi? That would be roughly 100lbs of weight loss.

Seems like Dodge Boy describing it appealing "Subculture of enthusiasts" who live and die by the tenth of a second means it will be a ILE type of deal with a gutted interior, no back seat or sound insulation. If they ditched air conditioning that would be like 80lbs right there.

Notion of adding awd of 200lbs then requiring 400lbs of weight reduction to net 200lbs under the hellcat - seems nearly impossible.

Hellcat is a total flop, no one's talking about it anymore, and it was a failure by modern performance standards. I like what's being said about this iteration, as if it's all true and done competently, it might be able to compete. Although I'm highly skeptical of anything FCA says, they have not delivered on just about anything as of late. Time will tell with this one.

How the heck is the Hellcat a flop? They sell pretty much every one they make. The ZL1 will probably beat the Challenger in most races, but the Charger is the baddest 4 door car you can buy these days, and I admit that as an SS owner.
