Cool Detroit: Volkswagen Rayra Concept

According to AutoSpies, Volkswagen will launch a new concept based on the Audi R8, at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The Concept called Rayra will probably see production in 2009.

Ah so THAT'S how they're going to beat Toyota... by offering a low-volume, high-buck roadster. Brilliant!

Nah it's cool enough... I'd have guessed a gussied-up Eos... but not 100% sure it's a critical car for VW...

So they're going to have VW compete with Audi again..... Yea, that makes sense. Apparently no lessons were learned from the Phaeton.

Re: Detroit: Volkswagen Rayra Concept

Although the Phaeton failed miserably, it has been proven that true sports cars can go outside of a company's perception. The corvette and nissan GT-R both prove that expensive sports cars can be sold through a brand that doesn't offer things in that price range.

The styling is nothing groundbreaking though and does not excite the way that Corvettes and GT-Rs do. I'm okay with the idea, but I'd like some more spice with a sports car. The R8 is a very exciting car to begin with, why they would dumb it down this much makes no sense to me.

I always wonder what the VW managers smoke before their press releases. They must get a bad batch every time.

What a stupid idea. VW hasn't made a good decision for a very long time.

It looks like the spawn of a TT and a 911. I am curious to see it in person.

I think it looks sleek. Price it right and people other than myself will probably buy them.
