Chrysler May Offer Money-Back Guarantee

Chrysler may offer money-back guarantee

Plan being considered would allow to buyers to return cars if they are unsatisfied.

June 23, 2006; Posted: 12:52 p.m. EDT (1652 GMT)

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Chrysler Group executives are giving serious consideration to a plan to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on the companies vehicles, according to a newspaper report.

The Chrysler Group, part of DaimlerChrysler, informed a group of dealers about the plan but an official announcement will not come until at least next week, according to the story in the Detroit News. In the style of former Chrysler Chief Executive Lee Iacocca, DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche will announce the plan and star in a new advertising campaign, according to the report.

Customers who return their cars would still have to pay a penalty and a mileage fee, the newspaper said.

Doesn't Saturn have the same policy already? Or at least I knew they did at one point.

Re: Chrysler May Offer Money-Back Guarantee

Sounds like desperation plot to me. Chrysler vehicles are not selling well I guess. What kind off penalty if you returned the vehicle that will be interesting. I am sure dealers are not liking to here that to well. So a million people try a vehicle for a month then return it. Man that could backfire on them. Theres a catch somewhere

Re: Chrysler May Offer Money-Back Guarantee

Yeah I think Chrysler is begging for sales. But what do they expect with a butt-ugly lineup, coupled with an aging van and sebring/stratus, and a cross-fire and Parcifica that doesn't sell.

UGLY
-300c
-Charger
-Magnum
-Calibar
-Ram
-The 2007 Sebring seems to be on the ugly path too, I would rather have the aging 2005-06 beleive it or not

I think your a little off your rocker... The 300, Magnum, Charger, and new Ram are pretty hot cars and I actually considered a Magnum for my purchase, although the price was still about 2k out of my price range. The Caliber is a nice little car with a huge ass end, but all of them are worthy competitors. If you think GM has great designs compared to Daimler Chrysler..., you need to open your eyes a little more.

Saturn used to have a 30-day 1500 mile satisfaction guarantee from 1991 until around 2000, where you could return the car for any reason and get your money back minus any cost from wear (i.e. beaten on and then returned). They still have the same return policy, but it's limited to a 3-days/150 miles (on CPO purchases anyway). The 30-day 1500 mile policy is now an exchange only for a different model.

Re: Chrysler May Offer Money-Back Guarantee

There has to be some kind of "Fee" or "Penalty"...hidden in the fine print. I can't see them simply returning it no questions asked...

No fine print, it's very straight-forward:
Vehicle Exchange Program

Re: Chrysler May Offer Money-Back Guarantee

One reason Saturn switched from the return toan exchange policy was because of incentives.

With a return policy you could bring it back within 30 days to get a better incentive.

With the exchange policy you can only get the incentive that was in place when you bought the car.. Better or Worse its the same.

I can see it, no problem. Buying a car is a pain. No one is going to buy a car on a whim, even with a money back guarantee. When people buy a car, they want the car they're buying. I bet waaaay less then 1% return their car.

Though it does reek of desperation.
