Chrysler-branded version of Dodge Journey killed

Following in the same vein as other threads on GMI concerning Chrysler LLC and their decision to cancel products and overlap -- such as Jim Press: "Clarify and focus brands" or "Chrysler expected to axe 3 products today" or "Report: Chrysler Group Set To Axe Up To Five Models" or "Chrysler Formally announces Plant and Model Changes; 4 models cut in 2008 ".

Now comes news that Chrysler has canned the Dodge Journey clone that was supposedly going to replace the Pacifica.

smart move, eliminate rebadging. unlike some other company that loves making 7 flavors out of every single car!

Re: Chrysler-branded version of Dodge Journey killed

It sure makes you wonder what they have planned for Chrysler. Maybe it was cancelled because it was too similar to the Journey just like the Aspen looks just like a Durango. Hopefully they can get the brands more focused and it looks like they are trying. Lets hope they get it done quickly enough.

Re: Chrysler-branded version of Dodge Journey killed

I think we can at last kiss the remaining separate Dodge and Chrysler stores goodbye. They're clearly moving towards having just a single channel, probably with all three brands.

Challenger fans best be happy this privatization didn't happen sooner. I doubt the new owners would have approved that car.

Re: Chrysler-branded version of Dodge Journey killed

Well, I think that this may be initially a correct move. However, maybe Chrysler should start focusing on Crossovers and kill off some of the Gas Swilling vehicles like the Commander and Durango and replace with something more relevant in the marketplace.

Either way, this is going to be a very painful metamorphisis for the entire company.

No kidding. The Challenger will be about as successful as the Prowler. Low volume - high priced and short lived. Those that want an affordable muscle car will continue to buy the Mustang and the Camaro.

My current ride - 2004 Mazda6s - V6 with a five speed manual. GM forced me to the competition because they didn't offer a midsize sedan with a V6 and manual transmission.

I think the Journey should be a Chrysler product rather than Dodge. IMO, Dodge doesn't need a vehicle like this while the Durango still lives.

No, you said they were reintroducing the Pacifica in spring 2009 with a traversely mounted 6.4L MDS Hemi with the 2-mode hybrid system and 12 passenger Stow-n-Go seating.

You, as always, were way off the mark.

Cerberus guys love cutting. They already made fools of themselves by cutting the Challenger for Europe.

Is that James Dean in your Avatar? On the set of Giant? I think that movie is in my Netflix queue.

Oh, and nobody cares about Chrysler of Europe. Nobody really cares about it on its home turf, either.

Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Chrysler Town & Country, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Patriot, Dodge Ram, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Dodge Caliber.

Those are the only vehicles left that have any life or workable potential. Even the Journey's outlook is dim when you consider its powertrain options.

I hope you are wrong, because i love the looks of the Challenger. It's way more retro than the Camaro which is a good thing in my eyes. I know many, many, many people will disagree with me though. I'd like to see a Challenger R/T be about the same price as a loaded Mustang GT. I know the SRT-8 will be high priced.

I'm glad to hear that the rebadging seems to be ending at Chrysler. I think this is a good move.

Re: Chrysler-branded version of Dodge Journey killed

As dumb as we all think the Aspen is, it's selling well considering what it is. And the real reason companies rebadge vehicles is because it is so cheap to do. When the Traverse hits Chevy Dealerships this summer will you be complaining about badge engineering?

Not having a Chrysler crossover is silly. I guess they're just going to leave it to the Town & Country.
