Re: Geely to bring 2 SUV's and 2 Pickups to 2007 NAIAS
Umm, the make is not Geely, so the title is wrong.

Malaysian Company Proton, brought a little pick up to Oz. It had a 64kW 1.5L. It sold as well as it deserved.

Re: Chinese to bring 2 SUV's and 2 Pickups to 2007 NAIAS
Honestly, it may do very well with fleet sales -- most companies don't really care about what their company vehicles look like, its all about operational costs. The Ford Ranger has quietly lived year after year on a outdated chassis thanks to fleet sales. If these chinese trucks undercut price and offer competitive fuel economy -- then they might do very well. Slap a long warranty and a low MSRP on anything -- and you could sell manure on wheels to most American consumers. Look at how well Hyundai and Kia have been doing -- most of their powertrains are manure certified.

I would think that a truly compact truck with a reasonable price would sell quite well. I think the mid-size trucks now are in a state of "what's my purpose". They're not small enough to be efficient, not big enough to have a lot of capability, yet they command a price akmost as high as a full-sizer.
My little 1983 Nissan Kingcab 4x4 still runs good at 198,000 miles (it also sat up for 5 years) and gets 20/24 mpg. Trucks like that and the older s-10 is where you will get compact sales. I think todays smaller trucks just don't cut it.

Re: Chinese to bring 2 SUV's and 2 Pickups to 2007 NAIAS
The Chinese automakers have a history of dreaming and talking big, but falling far short when reality hits. The reality is that Changfeng trucks and SUV's aren't selling even in their home market, so export is more of a survival tactic to keep the company afloat.
