A new set of spy photos indicates that Ford is well into the development of the 2015 Mustang. Based on what little we can see underneath all that thick black camouflage, the new face really does share DNA with the Evos, not to mention the latest Ford Fusion, due in part to the shape of its grille.

Under the hood, the spy photographers note that there's less room for massive (and often forced-induction) V8 engines, though it does appear that the current 5.0-liter mill indeed fits inside. Barely. Which makes us ask this inevitable question: Is the world ready for Ford Mustang EcoBoost? We certainly are.

The front end of the Mustang breaks cover the day the new Corvette video is posted?

I smell a little marketing war brewing.

I see several thousand posts about "those commie Europeans who killed our American legend" coming very soon.

If anything, the next generation of sports coupes should enjoy significant volume gains as they reach a wider audience.

Ehh. It's a natural evolution IMO. You can only reach into the heritage vault so far before people start looking for something new.

I expect the next Mustang to be as far from "heritage" as one can get.
    Side scoop detail? Sure.
Long hood / short deck proportions? Yep.
Pony in the grille? You bet.
    But retro? Not at all

I'm glad retro is going away. I hope Camaro gets a clean sheet. I like the current car (and Mustang) but it's time to move forward and try some new possibilities!

True, but they can still make retro copies of the '69 or '71 mustang

And just so we're all clear.
This mule has old (2010-14) coachwork on the revised D2C (unsure of nomenculture, D3C?) platform with the new front end grafted on. The body is not in any way production. My sources have been very clear that none of the bodywork or glass carry over.

My thoughts exactly. I think we need to be open minded about the future of pony cars. They are becoming serious performance machines and moving further away from what the US traditional knows them as. They are becoming true sports cars. I expect them to have wider global appeal design and perfommance wise and I look forward to seeing them perform.

you can have retro design cues with the body shape being retro (99-04s are a good example). I hope the new Mustang continues to be a Mustang in that respect.

Re: 2015 Ford Mustang mule spotted with production nose

There was a comment on there about how it will be weird to see a Mustang that looks so much like the rest of Ford's lineup. That the Mustang has always had an original look to it. I thought they had a point, then I remembered Ford's 1986, 1987, and 1988 lineups. I'd post a bunch of pics, but I'm sure we all remember, that the Escort, EXP, Tempo, Taurus, Thunderbird, Mustang, and their Mercury twins all looked VERY similar. At night, it was almost impossible!! LOL

I smell journalists conjuring that perception with "scoops"......

It's too bad that Ford is going in that direction because I like the current design. Maybe it's an opening for GM to take advantage of what I believe is a mistake on Ford's part. I wonder how this is going to go over with the die-hard Mustang gear heads, it's going to be interesting.

Hard for me to really appreciate much with the camo on. I was hoping for a lower cowl.
Pony Car: an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image and an available V8.
