2013 Ford Fusion gets mixed review from Consumer Reports
    Automotive News
    January 23, 2013
    by David Phillips

The 2013 Ford Fusion mid-sized sedan won praise for its handling and sportiness from Consumer Reports, but the magazine's automotive experts faulted the car for poor fit and finish and fuel economy that falls well short of claims on the window sticker.

The magazine said today that other prominent gripes -- namely the MyFord Touch infotainment and controls system -- also kept the new Fusion out of the top of its mid-sized sedan ratings.

Consumer Reports said it bought and tested three versions of the Fusion: an SE model with a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, an SE Hybrid and a high-end Titanium model with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

The top-scoring mid-sized sedans in the magazine's road tests are now the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, Fusion, Kia Optima, Nissan Altima and Subaru Legacy.

All but the Malibu and Fusion are recommended by the magazine.

    "Poor fit and finish"? Hmm.

I've been reading about Fords mini-scandal around mileage figures on the Hybrids, but isn't the figure on the sticker the the responsibility of the EPA?

I'm not surprised. I've seen it with many new Fords. Worst was the Taurus, and mainly for poor exterior panel alignment. I'm not sold on the build quality of Fords.

Didnt want to hear about poor fit and finish from Ford. I thought they had that locked up by now. GM must know themselves that excellent fit and finish is a must these days and quality must be kept above board.

GM must return its divisions to being interdependent entities within the corporation. Decentralize and free the different divisions talents to foster brand differentiation and customer loyalty.

Ford's hybrid powertrain is a joke. They set a target on Toyota's technology and failed.

And inspite of all the bad press, Fusion will continue selling in good numbers as will a rejuvenated Malibu.
Ford is feeling the pain of switching from mature Mazda based products to modified versions of its
European vehicles and supplier base. Meh, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Ford sold around 8,000 hybrids in December, a huge jump on previous efforts
and will continue selling in impressive numbers regardless of a few whingers..

In Europe Ford is known for comparative priced cars with nice suspension. Interior quality, not so much. I see no problem here.

Just curious- why is the Malibu not on the recommended list?

I never pay attention to consumer reports. They don't anything about properly judging cars ...

They should stick to appliances.....which is why they prefer Japanese brands...

Their collective test results are skewed by who sends in information. They subject audience is their readership. It ends up being a skewed result of the same audience.

Their test results in my opinion cater to their audience.

Cramped back seat, spongy handling when the car is driven beyond cruising speeds and price. They felt the higher price didn't represent a good enough value for what you're getting.

How does "fit and finish" matter to an A-to-B conveyance in Consumer Reports' world?
2005 CTS-V, LS6, Supercharged, Headers, and lots more. (garage queen)
2011 Cruze ECO, 1.4T, 6-spd manual. (my DD)
    2012 SRX, 3.6, AWD. (wife's car).

Just remember, Mullaly made Ford employess go meet with CR a few years ago, stroked their ego and then Ford was on the top of CR's improved list and CR said great things about them. Then Ford dumped them and now Ford's CR's personal target, I've had girlfriends that acted the same way.

Yep anybody who have noticed my posts would see this criticism I always made about the new Malibu. The other issues CR had against the Malibu is total crud, plus I really do not think the fit and finish issues on the Fusion are so bad as to not make the CR recommended list.

CR is total Bullexcrement as there are import cars they have recommended that had long term mechanical reliability problems.
