2009 Toyota Venza at Detroit Auto Show

Autoblog.com reports 2009 Camry sibling.

Toyota's presence at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) will be punctuated by what the automaker is calling a "crossover sedan" that incorporates elements of both a sedan and an SUV. The U.S.-designed and engineered 2009 Toyota Venza will seat five and be built alongside the Camry, Avalon and Solara at ToMoCo's plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. That pretty much means it's a go for production despite never having been glimpsed by the public.

Where'd you get that?

we'd suspect that this new model would take aim at Ford's Edge and possibly GM's line of Lambda-based CUVs, with car underpinnings and a hatch.
The Mazda5 seats 7 and is small car sized, not mid-size...sized. I agree the Zafira needs to get here yesterday, but not because of this thing.

Daily the great toy company turns into GM of old. The Venza will only take away shoppers from the RAV4 or Highlander. I know it won't directly compete with either, but someone who was only going to look at those two will have another choice.

Arrogance breeds complacency, this can be seen by Toyota refusing to cut production targets and willing to take risks on high inventory and using incentives to move it.

Sounds familiar doesn't it.

There is always pride before the fall, Toyota is no different.

Yes, but unlike GM, they will buy it from the same dealership, so what's the problem?

So with this car, the green company will have 6 "large" vehicles, compared to 4 cars.

intense.

Sounds like a stationwagon to me. How hard could it be to build a stationwagon off of a Camry?

I almost fell over when I saw the seat! If Toyota buyers -- esp. Camry owners -- aren't considered geriatric enough, provide that seat to ensure the stigma stays!

That's obviously what's coming. It fits the bill exactly.

edit: That picture also explains the Toyota PR quote: “Venza will be a unique blend of sedan and sport utility vehicle, offering seating for five, easy ingress and egress, a car-like ride and functional utility.”

It's a stationwagon. Ooo. Innovation. Ooo.
