2009 Honda FCX Clarity Breaks Cover

Quote:
Honda today unveiled the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show, announcing plans to begin limited sales of the vehicle in summer 2008. The FCX Clarity is a hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle based on the new Honda V Flow fuel cell platform. It is powered by a compact fuel cell stack producing no emissions.
Talk about UGH-LEE! The rear end of this thing redefines awkward. I wouldn't be caught dead in this cockroach. Nice 80s Buick wheels.

All that aside, it probably carries some cool technology. But still, you'd have to be seen in it...

Actually I love the looks of this sleek thing, but then again I love the new Murano and find the G-8 beyond boring and the Challenger absymal...car lust is such a subjective thing. This car being on the road should be a new impetus to get more hydrogen stations out there, just as the Model T made gas stations sprout up. way to go Honda! Here's hoping that GM has a "skateboard" technology car almost ready for showrooms.

Three year lease in SoCal only, eh?

Say hello to Honda's EV-1 Mk II.

Give me a break, Honda totally dropped the ball on styling when converting from concept to production. That in itself is bad enough, but the end result is wretched.

Someone offer that center stack a blanket, it's looking a little chilly. Talk about having glass-cutters...

You got to be kidding? That is one of the ugliest cars I have seen in a long time. Looks like something an 80 year old women would drive to church. Can you say AMC Pacer?

I know it's aerodynamics, but it just looks like a smoothed out Prius to me.

It's not bad for what is intended to be a futuristic looking car. Though, The wheelbase is too long and some body lines make the car look droopy.

The rears has some CR-X style going on... the Insight did, too.

Okay, the FCX and the Murano look like cookie cutter cars, but you find the G8 and the challenger abysmal? I agree looks are subjective, but you've got to be kidding!

I think it looks like the daughter of a VW passat and a prius.

Re: 2009 Honda FCX Clarity Breaks Cover

My complaint is not about the looks. The car looks very good.

My complaint is the price. Honda will be pricing this at $600 per month. A 4 cylinder Saturn Aura lease is $199. Add about $200 per month for gasoline, a little more for insurance, and you save over $100 per month - not including the hydrogen from the special station miles away.

Alternatives need to compete economicly. They need to be the same cost to operate as the gasoline car. This shows that they are getting close to the cost of gas powered cars, but we still have a ways to go.

The car is a good start in the right direction.

My next car is going to be a non-S Mini Cooper or a Honda Fit.

None of this hybrid and alternative fuel nonsense for me... yet.

Luckily, one fun thing about loving cars is that we all get to have different tastes.

GM, Please don't make the Volt look like a version of the Prius too.
