2008 Land Rover LR2

Pics at link: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=117801#2

The LR2 is expected to be priced under $35,000 when it hits the market next year. Technical highlights of the LR2 include a 230-hp inline-6 engine that sprints from zero to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The engine is mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission with manual sequential gearchanges. There is also a driver-selectable sport mode for improved performance. Land Rover's Terrain Response system, which enhances off-road performance, is standard. The LR2 is also equipped with a new permanent "intelligent" all-wheel-drive system.

Other features and options include a keyless starter button, bi-xenon headlights, adaptive front lighting, rain-sensing wipers and rear park distance control. A two-part panoramic sunroof is standard. An optional premium audio system features Dolby Pro Logic II 7.1 surround sound with 14 speakers and an in-dash six-disc CD changer.

What this means to you: A much nicer-looking vehicle than the outgoing Freelander, with what promises to be an affordable sticker price.

I wonder if the little Land Rover now shares a platform with the Escape/Mariner twins?

I think they dont share the same platform yet because the freelander LR2 is on EUCD platform and the escape mariner tribute are on the CD2 platform but in 09 they will go to the EUCD platform

No, the Mariner-Escape twins aren't changing plaftorm anytime soon. They just got a complete, every panel-every piece, every dimension remake.

If I wanted any of these Fords, I would go with the Escape

The interior looks pretty slick. The control and button array does not look as confusing as in other Land Rover products.

I like that orange color, too.

Re: 2008 Land Rover LR2

still looks like fugly, overpriced crap. Unimpressed. I still looks "shrunk" on top. I was hoping for something more BOLD and DARING!

doesn't look too luxurious either.

inline-6?
enough said.

"sprints" 0-60, 8.4 seconds...
no so much of a sprint, eh?

With what I read they should have. The Freelander was based entirely on all the old Rover bits. Now it's based more on the European Ford Focus and the Volvo XC 60 to come out. That should count for a lot. Whether that's enough is another thing.

Freelanders are hardly "crap". I know two people who own them. No, the never leave the city, and they jump curbs not rocks, but they've never had a single problem and they are easy to park and manuever. Maybe they should have purchased a Trailblazer with an inline-6 instead...

Why, would you buy one then?

You're knocking the inline-6? Perhaps you should educate yourself a little more about engine design. Enough said...

No, not much of a sprint. You'd think its was an SUV or something.
