You know...i kept asking myself why GM would need to build a bigger badder Vette.
Well...here is my answer. Wonder what the price will be?

Love the aggressive hood, great lines on the car...but its lossing its hips and shape, kind of lacking something that always stuck out before..cant really put my finger on it.

Oh man that viper is a master piece. It is a true sports car and a niche one at that. Forget comparing it to a vette because there is no comparison if you are going to be realistic.

Re: 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Unveiled! All The Deets & Pics!

So they added heat extractors to the hood, managed to get 90 more horsepower by making the engine even bigger, and dropped the garbage transmission out of it... What else is different? It looks like they took a viper and tried wayyyy to hard to make the front end special and let the rest be as non-descript as can be. 510 horsepower out of an 8.3L V10 is sad, especially when compared to the LS7, which has two less cylinders and 1.3L less displacement and is only missing out by 5 horsepower. I think the solution would be to fire DCX's engineers in charge of the engine instead of once again upping the displacement. Also, I'm sorry, did that article really say "world class ride and handling?" hahahahahahahahahahaha. Sorry, sorry, I'm sure that was a quote from dodge, because last time I drove a viper the ride was rough and the handling left a lot to be desired, due mostly to the 345s that dodge slapped on the rear to try to get traction. In almost every comparison I ever saw/read the base model corvette outhandled the viper. Fifth gear said that even though the viper won hands down in a straight line, they simply could not recommend it over the base corvette because the viper was so terrible. Congrats on the new transmission, maybe now it wont feel like they took it out of the Ram 3500s, but mostly here's what I guarantee of the new viper. Terrible ride, terrible gas milage, below average handling, boring styling (they overworked the front hood and gave it the boringly generic dodge lower grill, then made the rest dull... where's the improvement, the excitement?), and overall, once again, an inferior car to the much cheaper corvette. I guarantee these changes will push the viper to $100K+. Give me a Z06 and a magnuson supercharger and I'll still have enough left over to pay for my insurance for two years.

Ignorance is bliss, and how can the price jump 20K?
I can see 90K, but not 100K.

Such a connoisseur. You know, there's a point at which you just have to say "so what?" when it comes to cars. You're comparing two very expensive cars as if they're two very cheap cars. I'm by no means a Dodge person but I could give a **************** as to how much better a Corvette is in this context. The Corvette is a great car and it could be superior to the Viper in every way but does that make the Viper a bad car? No, unless one doesn't have an appreciation for the value of a dollar. The way I see it, cars like a Viper or a 'Vette are like automotive artwork. Some may be more impressive than others but I wouldn't mind having all of them.

Looks aggressive... YES...

But, 0-60 time less than 4 seconds... isn't that where it stands right now?! Are they not wanting to tell us exactly how fast it is because it's slower than a 505 hp Z06 that is missing 100 hp compared to this "ultimate" Viper?! Hmmm...

It sorta reminds me of the new Toyota Tundra ad that I saw in the Bass Pro Shop catalog I got in the mail... touts about how it has so much horsepower and torque going for it yet fails to tell you just how much... what do they have to be scared of?! Tell us the stupid numbers!

GO GM!!! Goooooooo.....

This is why we are anticipating that supercharged Vette that we hear so much about...

anyhow, we'll just have to wait and see with the comparisons that will be coming out soon... and, that will tell us whether or not we can compare the two...

If I remember right I read how a 400 horsepower base Corvette smoked the tires off of a 500 horsepower Mustang GT500... When you know how to build an outstanding Sports Car that can outperform a car with 100 more horsepower underhood then I do not doubt for one minute that GM can do it here too... just wait and see my friend... just wait and see...

"But why does GM have to supercharge a Vette in order to compare with the Viper?!"

whatever.... I don't want to hear it... strip the Viper of two cylinders and see what they have then! Or, better yet... add two more cylinders to the Chevy and see what happens... pssshhh....

In the same way a Z06 retails for roughly 68 and usually sells for about 75, the viper retails around 83 and usually goes for 90. So a 10 grand price jump for 90 more horsepower and a new transmission? I fail to see how that's ignorant. And if by some odd chance your ignorance cliche was somehow directed towards any other of my points, I encourage you to back your opinion up, being that you failed to do so thus far.

*shrugs* I was accurately comparing the two cars, price was factored in. Anyone can throw a huge engine into a semi-decent looking body, that doesn't make it a good car. The fact that a car is expensive doesn't mean that its flaws should be overlooked, it means they shouldnt exist.

Re: 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Unveiled! All The Deets & Pics!

Doesn't do much for me (the Viper in general, that is). To me, a sports car should be reasonably compact and have a degree of nimbleness about it. Sticking the largest, most powerful engine you can might be fine if your idea of sport is to get from one end of a straight to the other in as short time as possible, but for me, 911, 430, Gallardo and even Corvette hold more appeal.

Horses for courses I suppose!

Not impressed. They changed the hood, engine, and transmission. But getting 600 hp from a 8.4l V10 with vvt is hardly impressive. Even still, I've got to give them props for even having the balls to put this thing on the road.
