2008 Chrysler Minivans Spy Pics

2008 Chrysler Minivans Revealed
By Ed Hellwig Email

Date posted: 02-27-2006

It's rare when minivans get attention from anyone other than moms and preschoolers, so when our latest spy photos of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan came in we figured they were worth a look. Heavy camo conceals the details, but the overall shape reveals a few things about the direction of Chrysler's next-generation minivans.

Unlike the current Dodge Grand Caravan, and its Chrysler Town and Country twin, this prototype has a much boxier shape. The grille is more upright than the current model and the rear end looks more squared off. The new look gives the Grand Caravan some family resemblance to the Magnum wagon and Charger sedan and might even add some extra interior space.

Another noticeable change is what looks to be a switch to rear windows that roll down. It's a must-have feature now that more than one Asian competitor already offers it. We doubt there's much in store for the seating arrangement inside the van as Chrysler already has a lock on cabin versatility with its Stow 'n Go foldaway seats in the second row. A recent Dodge concept incorporated a Stow 'n Go front-passenger seat, but it's doubtful Dodge will go that far with this van.

I don't see why not to make a stow and go front passenger seat...

How does a camoed spy shot equate to "revealed?"

Re: 2008 Chrysler Minivans Revealed

ehh, I'm not liking it. It looks like it's going to be a overblown magnum/caliber. I'll take a Town & Country if I had to pick between the two.

Not my headline, blame Edmunds, but I'll change it so it wont cause anymore troubles.

I like it.
As a former Chrysler minivan owner, I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole.
But that looks more aggressive in a way not as startlingly repugnant as the Caliber.
It will be interesting to see if this new entry remains a best seller ahead of Honda and Toyota.

Taller, squared off front end? Dodge's CSV?

I'm sure it will look better than what they've got now. But I think they're making a mistake by going with a boxier/chiseled look... women like curves.

Re: 2008 Chrysler Minivans Spy Pics

I bought a new 1984 Dodge Caravan LE and a 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan LE. When Chrysler went to the "jelly bean" shape, I stopped buying them.

Minivans are a very practical vehicle, but styling is also important. I bet the new "boxier" (back to the future.....) shape will be a hit.
