If I didn't know any better I'd say Mr. Bangle had something to do with that rear end.

Re: 2006 Hyundai Grandeur Preview

Hyundai continues to improve. In the next 5 to 10 years I wouldn't be surprised if they usurp Toyota or Honda. Their reliablity is improves and as are their engines. Their 3.3 liter V6 is on par with the competing 3900 V6, HF 3.6 in the Lucerne, and the Toyohonda V6s.

When I first saw the smaller photo of the back end, I wondered if they'd accidentally put a Honda Accord sedan photo there. :p

Hyundai's getting interesting.

Want to know something? This car was called the Grandeur XG in Korea et al, here was the XG300 then 350. But, Grandeur XG is French, and something that would usually be better seen on a t-shirt tag, since it really means "Size - Xtra Large"...

"delusions of grandure" maybe. This is one company GM needs to buy when they get some cash, just to get the manufacturing potential in Asia, then phase out the brand.

Good one.
I do think they have made a pretty nice car. Shouldn't turn too many people off with the styling but isn't what I would call bland either. I don't like it at 35k.

That site lists these as its main competitors:

Direct Competitors: Acura TL, Buick Lucerne, Chrysler 300, Ford Five Hundred, Kia Amanti, Lexus ES330, Mercury Grand Marquis, Nissan Maxima, VW Passat

I guess I could put the Hyundai in the top half of that group.

It's a sweet car. The current XG350 impresses me with the level of features, comfort and room for $24K, this will definately be an amazing car for the money.

You know its bad when Hyundai does a better job integrating the Accord's rear-end with the rest of the car than Honda did.

Just FYI, Hyundai is a rather big company that does a lot more than cars. Unlike Daewoo, they're not selling their car division, and the whole company is a bit much for GM to swallow.

Re: 2006 Hyundai Grandeur Preview

This is a nice car, and it's also the first Hyundai I actually like. It seems like a strong contender.

That being said, I'm not convinced it's superior to its aforementioned competitors, including GM's entry. Of course, I imagine the press will heap praise upon it, and the press will be equally stingy with that same praise for the Lucerne.
