Honda Lowers MPG Figures 14% On Hybrid
Link: edmunds.com
TORRANCE, Calif. — The redesigned 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid gets a face-lift and an increase in price on both models, the company has announced. Pricing starts at $31,540, including a $550 destination charge, for the base Accord Hybrid; models equipped with a navigation system start at $33,540, including destination — a price increase of $850 each. Honda added a standard moonroof and a temporary spare tire to the Accord Hybrid, which added 88 pounds to the vehicle and shifted it into a new EPA weight category, said Honda spokesman Chuck Schifsky. As a result, Honda revised the Accord Hybrid's EPA rating from 29 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the highway for the 2005 model to 25 mpg in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway for the 2006 model. Re: Honda Lowers MPG Figures 14% On Hybrid
I'm pretty good with stats - and I can tell you that the addition of 88 pounds is not going to give you a 14% reduction in reported MPG.
I smell the corporate lawyers at work here heading off a possible class action suit on hybrid mpg figures. |

Wow! That's Awesome! 25/34! Incredible economy!
GM will never keep up with that kind of efficiency. I couldn't even get that by buying a Saturn Ion. Oh wait, I can. www.fueleconomy.gov 26/35 Nevermind.

Re: Honda Lowers MPG Figures 14% On Hybrid
Well, Honda's Accord Hybrid (25/34) is more powerful and faster than their top of the line Accord V6 EX (20/29) or Chevrolet Malibu SS (19/26). The Chevrolet Impala SS (18/28) is more powerful, larger, and faster, but gets worse mileage. The price premium can be debated, but the Accord is a midsize car that's fairly powerful, so lets compare apples to apples please. "Haha, this Vespa with 80mpg beats those darned hybrids!"

Re: Honda Lowers MPG Figures 14% On Hybrid
Im surprised to see the drop, though Honda really hasn't promoted the mileage, they mroe went after the performance. So for this car it doesnt seem to be that big of a deal.
