AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Chrysler Group today announced U.S. pricing for its all-new 2005 Jeep® Grand Cherokee. With best-in-class off-road capability and best-in-class power, torque and towing capability, the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is designed, engineered and built to master every imaginable day-to-day driving condition, whether on-road or off-road.

The base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is $26,775, including $645 destination. The Jeep Grand Cherokee will begin to arrive in dealerships this fall.

"The all-new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers customers a $2,000 better value than its predecessor," said Jeff Bell, Vice President - Jeep. "We've been able to lower the price on Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo models by $1,780, while adding $300 more in content. Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited prices are $1,000 lower for V-8 models, while providing customers with $700 more in content."

Along with lower prices and more content, the pricing strategy will result in improved re-sale values and competitive monthly payments for Jeep Grand Cherokee owners.

"Taking all this into consideration, it means the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee's durability, premium amenities, technological advancements and fuel efficiency will lead to an overall cost of ownership improvement for our customers," said Bell.

"Chrysler Group's strides in manufacturing efficiency, quality improvements and our operating philosophy of disciplined pizzazz have allowed the Company to consistently introduce exciting, lower priced, all-new models with more content into the marketplace," said Craig Love, Vice President - Rear Wheel Drive Product Team.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

With an MSRP of $26,775 for 4x2 models and $28,745 for 4x4 models (including destination), the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo comes standard with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine mated to an all-new five-speed automatic transmission.

The all-new five-speed automatic transmission provides an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy. The Quadra-Trac I full-time four- wheel drive system offers customers the convenience of full-time four-wheel drive. The system provides for smooth operation over a variety of road surface conditions.

Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) is standard with Quadra-Trac I. BTCS utilizes the brake system to provide resistance to any wheel that is slipping to allow additional torque transfer to the wheels with traction.

Other standard features on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo include 17-inch Satin Silver finish wheels and tires, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, four- way power driver and front passenger adjustable lumbar support, advanced multi-stage driver and front passenger air bags, tire pressure monitoring system and cargo storage with reversible load-floor and water-resistant storage compartment.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited comes standard with a 4.7-liter V-8 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system provides full-time active four-wheel drive, which anticipates and prevents wheel slip for optimum traction during a wide range of conditions. It also includes the benefit of the Brake Traction Control System.

The MSRP for Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x2 models is $32,100 (including destination), while the MSRP for Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 models is $34,690 (including destination).

Other standard features on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited include power adjustable pedals with memory, rain-sensing automatic wipers, leather-wrapped steering wheel, electochromic interior rearview mirror, six-way power driver and four-way power front passenger seats, Infrared Dual Zone Climate Control, AM/FM stereo with six-disc in-dash CD with MP3 capability, Boston Acoustics six-speaker premium sound system with 276-watt digital amplifier and leather interior trim.

A 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine (330 hp/375-lb. ft. torque) with the fuel- saving Multi-Displacement System and five-speed automatic transmission including Quadra-Drive II and Electronic Stability Program is also available on Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited models. The MSRP for Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited models equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine is $37,860.

If I had that much money to spend on a vehicle, a Jeep would be the last thing on my list.

Everyone here keeps sticking up for the virtues of pushrods, so obviously plenty of people would get excited regardless of how the valves are operated....

Chrysler seems to be becoming the domestic version of Hyundai. Giving people a whole bunch of stuff for less than what they expected to pay for it and throwing in a long warranty as icing. Seems to have worked well so far on the LXs and Durangos, we'll have to see what it does for the Dakota and Grand Cherokee.

If I was looking for an SUV in that class at MSRP, I'm pretty sure the Grand Cherokee would be at the top of my shopping list. However, seeing the rebates on a Trailblazer would compell me to go with the lesser SUV (price/equipment/fit and finish quality/prestige-wise)

Hmmm. I wonder if these numbers are with or without the 89-octane midgrade gas the DCX recommends for vehicles with this engine, like the Ram. DCX likes to tout how "great" and "powerful" the hemi engine is but only quietly reports the midgrade recommendation, which is important to know because an extra ten cents per gallon at the pump can add up pretty quick and even though DCX says that 87-octane is "acceptable," it also probably results in a drop in performance.

Jeez...everyone has to find something to complain about.

If you really can't afford the pennies a gallon extra for mid-grade, then 87 will work just fine in that vehicle. And if you really can't afford that gas, then maybe you wouldn't/shouldn't be buying the HEMI in the first place.

And I think most people would be surprised that it doesn't require premium fuel, seeing on how the engine is so powerful. Heck, the Camry V6 requires premium. I know everyone is shocked when I say mine doesn't take premium. Especially my parents....their A4 3.0 and E320 both take premium and they're 6s.

For an 'All New' vehicle, it sure looks as if the stylists were afraid to stretch very far with their imaginations.

At least it won't offend the current Grand Cherokee customers, but I don't think the styling will win-over customers that are tired of the current design.

The rear 3/4 view looks ten years old already.

GM- take out your pens and pencils and take note cause your gonna be outdone again! The new Grand Cherokee is $1870 less than before and $1000 less on Limiteds WHILE OFFERING MORE CONTENT!!!!! Strange but isn't that the exact opposite of what GM is doing these days! And give me a break about the pushrod thing. What does everyone think is being offered in GM's SUVS and trucks. The 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 8.1 are all PUSHRODS. And the 5.3 that is an option only in the regular Ranier and the extended length TB and Envoy have 40 less hp and 45 less lbs feet of torque compared to the Hemi. Has anyone driven a Hemi? They sound and feel awesome! Add to this Jeeps off road capabilities, well thought out standard equipment list (power driver seat and 17" tires etc) and this looks like an attractive package.

I would personally like to know if this cheroke is once again unit body and also straight axled up front. You really need a full frame for 380 ftlbs

I'd say unibody...
When they offerred the 5.9 in the old body they added a few braces but it held up with the torque just fine, so I see no reason to change it.

I think Jeep is one of the best brands out there, and you can't argue with its loyalty and profitability. That thing has been a cash cow for over 20 years. What other brand can change the styling once in 15 years, and still be at the top in sales???

I'm not really liking the new GC's styling, but it's growing on me - anyways, it's not hideous, but it's not breathtaking either. BTW, if I was shopping for an SUV in this price range, the GC would be one of the vehicles at the top of my list...
