The newest version of Hyundai's mid-size sedan will be built in Montgomery, Alabama . The new Sonata will go upscale and attempt to compete with the top selling Honda Accord and Toyota 's Camry, with a few styling cues borrowed from the VW Passat.

From other shots I have seen of the front and rear end, this car looks very impressive. The interior and exterior look like they can go head to head with the best in it's class plus win over some possible Passat owners too. With it's 10yr. powertrain warranty and low pricing this car will be a huge success for Hyundai. The Japanese and American manufacturers need to start worrying about the Koreans!

Keep an eye on Hyundai. The Koreans are causing way more concern to Toyota and Honda than the Americans are. Hyundai has proven that it is a fast learner!

Was that said tongue in cheek? I should have been.

The Hyundai is definitely a huge threat to domestic and Japanese manufacturers. Good for them, they've been working hard. But I don't think that interior is anything especially praiseworthy. Comparing it to a BMW's isn't that big of a kudos.

There are much better spy shots than these out there and have been for months. It looks very VW/Ford, very contemporary, and very nice. Assuming it's well built with decent materials this should be the most competative Korean car ever. This should have Honda and Toyota VERY scared - it seems the Koreans can build an appliance as good as anyone.

You are right. I have seen photos of the completed body and interior. Hyundai is smart, the new car looks like a cross between the Passat and Accord. Actually the rear end is indistinguishable from the Honda Accord 4-door's rear. The interior looks very classy, especially the gauges which kind of remind of Chryslers new gauges.
