The 2005 Ford Mustang - the first new Ford pony car in more than 20 years - will be priced from $19,410, Ford said on Tuesday. The new Mustang comes with a 200-hp V-6 engine and five-speed manual gearbox, dual front airbags, and an AM/FM CD player. The GT version, with a 300-hp version of Ford's modular V-8 and a five-speed manual gearbox as well, starts from $24,995. Both prices include destination charges. The Mustang goes on sale in the fall, with a convertible version expected in calendar year 2005.

Now, if GM was smart, they'd return the Camaro with comparable pricing, not 1-5k over the Ford equal. They'd also listen to their customers and throw in the features they want, not just packages, allowing for limitless combinations of Camaros, without the options they do not want.

Then again, if life were like that, you wouldn't need a visa card...

The Gt starting price is a little too high!
I mean how much is the Gt convertable going to be in the $30's.
That is way too high for a mustang when you can get a 350Z for convertable for a little more money!

Dude, high for 300 HP??? What are you talking about, tell me a car you can get for $25k that has 300 HP. And yeah, used cars don't count. I don't like Ford or their mustang "retro" (more like copy from the past) styling, but if this car performs, it's a bargain. I would never buy it, but it's a bargain.

I'm liking the Mustang more the more I see it. It's a bargain, if nothing else... and has a market all to itself. I'd actually own this... though there are a few cars in line before it.

Agreed! 25k is a small price to pay for 300 ponies. But the base model at nearly 20k seems a little high considering 200hp out of 4.0 liters. GM's 3800 in 2002 put out that figure. I still think this car will be a hit!

The next thing you here will be GM coming out with a half *** Camaro, after everyone has bought a Mustang, and say there is no market for that car..................always justifing their stupidity!!!!!!

I hate mustangs, but a 300hp v8 for 25 grand is NOT bad. Didnt we just establish in another thread that the ALTIMA SE-R is 28k base!?! for 260hp. I mean come on people. Try to be a little less stupid. At least pretend to be less stupid, even if you are.

Guys, the Mustang was a bargin even before the '05! I got my 04 GT with premium package for about $21K with rebates. 260HP, 300+ lbs torque, leather, tractin control, abs, 1000 watt stero, all for $21K! The General had nothing to compare for the price. GM needs to price their next pony car under 30K nicely equipped or Mustang will continue to outsell anything the general offers. Look at the poor GTO sales! Putting agurments about looks aside, it would be better if Goat was only 300HP but priced 8K lower!

Well, there goes the WRX and Evo's bargain apperance. For less money I can get just as much performence in a lot nicer package (say what you will about reto... it's still better than the WRX). I think this new Stang'll definately be a huge hit for Ford. Now all we need is a short-wb LX (dart???) with the hemi, and a zeta camaro.... then we'd have one nice entry-perfromence market!!!!

Ah well... I can't afford any of 'em anyway.... at least not till 2009... oh well, that gives GM time to count the beans and hold commitities..

Good example. Can't wait for the "Altima and Mustang are nothing alike" comments! I think you're right though... when talking power, the Mustang GT is a great bargain.

LOL@stupid... forget "Lies make baby Jesus cry"... it's more like "Stupidity makes GM_Guy81 cry!"

The new Mustangs are awesome. I love the new styling.
And costing $25,000 for a 300-hp GT, that is great prices.
Ford is going to sell these things like... well, like Mustangs!

The upcoming Charger, when in 340-hp Hemi form, is most
likely going to cost around $30,000 like its Magnum brother.
The $25,000 Mustang GT is already selling for under sticker,
from what I have heard, so that is a fairly big $$ differential.
(I doubt you will see Dodge dealers going easy on Chargers.)

Why is Chevy not giving any teasers to let us GM folks know
that they are thinking about us? At least we could have some
reason to hold off buying another brand if we know that GM is
going to serve us up with something comparable.

Although now that I think about it some more, I believe that
you can probably get a 350-hp GTO for something like $27K.
Maybe GM will just bite the bullet and lower GTO stickers?
