Re: New Daewoo Veritas - The Park Avenue The US Can't Have!

Back to Veritas.

Firstly, not a bad name but I wonder how it fits in Korean?
A couple of meanings I found, Truth and, a daughter of Saturn.... Any cryptic clues there?
Perhaps HSV should offer a Veritas package on the Grange............... (in vino veritas).

Also, is it coming from Australia or China?

It sure does, otherwise GM DAT would have chosen a different name. It means "truth" in Latin and sounds terrible to me, just like Gentra, so I guess it must be top-notch for Korean ears. FWIK, the Veritas is SKD-assembled from kits from Oz.

Maybe it should be the Daewoo Gravitas, that may fit the flagship better.
Though I have no real problem with Veritas.

I wouldn't have thought there would be much link between Korean and Latin though?

Sounds foreign, which is good enough in Asia. As concerns Gravitas - sorry, but even worse. Why not Daewoo Iustitia or Daewoo Nolens Volens?

As concerns the C-Klasse - no way, GM could have NEVER aped somebody, everything GM does is 1000% original!

GM does have a perception problem and to address that they haver to go BEYOND the competition.

Plus, the G8 competes with what? I don't see GM positioning it against anything. It doesn't get advertised. Sure, it can go up against the Maxima and 300C, but they don't advertise it at all. I doubt most people are even aware the car's out there.

The other problem is that GM has to bring out newer cars and to re-introduce some folks to GM they'll have to bring cars in at a lower price point -- like they've done with the CTS. However, they just don't have the cash to do that all around.

It's a pickle to be in, for sure. Personally, I think the G8 is just too early. They need a RWD G6 before they can sell G8s. For that market, they have it ass-backwards. Pontiac has to gain the younger crowd and the crowd looking for entry-level RWD sedans before they can entice folks into the G8. At least that's my way of thinking. Plus, without AWD it's going to get few sales in the snow belt. Too many folks who drive in snow want the security of FWD or AWD. RWD is just a turnoff or makes you think it's useful only during good weather. I know I took the G8 off my list because of the lack of AWD. Another example of nearsighted thinking on GM's part!

Yes, the current Holden designs have been out for several years now ... the C Class is late to the party.

Re: New Daewoo Veritas - The Park Avenue The US Can't Have!

We're talking the grille insert here. It does look like the C-Klasse and was indeed presented later than the W204. The previous Daewoo L4X showcar had vertical fanon:

I do not say they did this to make the Veritas look like the W204, but then again, with the car being out in the open for over a year now, it is hard not to realize they were doing something similar...

Re: New Daewoo Veritas - The Park Avenue The US Can't Have!

I just remembered why i hardly ever visit this site these days....so much mis-information and lack of knowledge.

Fact!
That gille on the Veritas was out long before the current C-Class, Holden used it on the current Statesman (with a Holden badge in the centre) over two years ago when it was first released.

And previous generations from years ago also used it like this old Buick Royaum.

Thanks for knowledgable reliable info

And your 1st sentence is also accurate, eg Caprice being recently categorised herein as "an E Class Impala" .. whatever that means?
