Re: New Daewoo Gentra X Launched In Korea
Just couldn't go to bed thinking that we assumed you liked the look of the Aveo, eh?

Re: New Daewoo Gentra X Launched In Korea
I know it won't happen, but as Korean myself, I am dreaming that Daewoo may some day in the future, export their Korean models(not the ones that tied with global marketing junks, since they do have some of their separate cars that isn't tied to the project, such as Royale series(which was actually the European Rekord series that was modified for sale in Korea, Espero(which has been dead for several years), Prince(was part of the Royale series, but I think it's one of the very few, unique, independent design made by Daewoo), Matiz(A Mini fighter, though I think it's smaller), Maepsy(which was originally a model from the long dead company called Saehan) and others, using their own DAEWOO badge like they did few years ago before running into problems due to management. I don't mind seeing Daewoo being sold as Chevrolet, Pontiac, or Suzuki, and others in a part of global project, but I sure miss the old days when Daewoo was an individual Korean car maker like Hyundai and Kia was. I am kinda sick of Hyundai's and Kia's, and the fact that they are always synonomous for the easily breakable, cheap, appliance cars that many Americans still chew down these days, which Daewoo didn't experience that much. Also, I want to see other Korean makes cruising in North America as well besides those Hyundai's and Kia's, which is now actually a one company. Daewoo have never received a praise when they were selling their cars on their own badge here, but it DID beat some more established nameplates like Volvo in customer satisfaction on its early years in US. Ranking 4th once, before they gone bust.
I would love to see the brand Daewoo return in its own name, and the likes of Ssangyong(once a seperate company, that was sold to Daewoo, now belongs to Chinese company, that started their cars using the Mercedes licensed engines and components), Renault-Samsung(I know, it won't be easy for them to sell outside Korea without the permit of their French parent), and even Proto Motors(who only have ONE model now, that is strictly, a tiny, limited production handmade, super-car maker that focus more on modifying and developping components for the other auto makes) and the rebirth of the dead company called Asia motors to export their few Jeep lookalike SUVs and cars they had, making it into US, so I can actually be proud of my own countries products, like Japanese people are with their products in US which they have MANY, MANY brands. I know, it's only my lame wish, that will NEVER happen. Back on topic, Yeah, I have to agree the Korean Gentra looks ages better than the Chevy version that blatenly copies the Audi's grille design, not in a pretty way. It's just too big and weird that hurts the whole car's look and stance. I prefer the Korean version 100 times over the Chevy re-badge.

Re: New Daewoo Gentra X Launched In Korea
![]() They just revealed the Pontiac variant in Montreal. Seriously, the Chevy version fails. No apparent changes in the back aside from the Pontiac/Wave etc. badges, this vehicle is likely to be marketed in Mexico as the Pontiac G3. Interior lighting is red as it was the case with the sedan, I wonder if the head unit (radio and clock) are going to be green (lighting) as it's the case with the present version, because it really kills the uplevel feel of the interior. |

This Pontiac may be a bit bland, but certainly more handsome than the Chevy version IMHO.

I'm just glad that stick-on grille doesn't look as out of place as it does on the Cobalt. Last edited by Aprime : 01-21-2008 at 05:41 PM. Reason: Addition of content |

Re: New Daewoo Gentra X Launched In Korea
With the whole grille thing, I think that they're trying to make it look somewhat like the Malibu's. It is, after all, the new face of Chevy.
