Re: GM seeks salvation in Russia, considers a factory in St. Petersburg

GM already sells the Cadillac SRX, STS and CTS, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Tahoe, Hummer H2 and H3 in Russia for the newly rich, but they also sell the GM DAT cars for the middle class. I think the negotiations for the plant would be to build some of the DAT cars locally for Eastern Europe.

Stock market alone is not indicative, because there are other factors such as inflation - at the usual yearly rate of 11-15%, the rouble weighs almost twice as little as it was in the year 2000. This is partially offset by falling dollar and high oil prices, which helps improve import/export ratio.

So basically incomes are just keeping pace with inflation then?

Probably worse, and still there's quite distant relationship between people's incomes and stock market indices And it's just too small to be indicative of anything - it's sufficient to say that there's a strong correlation between share prices of RAO GAZPROM and MICEX index.
