GM India introduces Aveo Variants, Creative New Warranty Program

General Motors unveils Aveo variants
THE HINDU
Saturday, Aug 11, 2007

NEW DELHI: Marking its first anniversary in India, American car major General Motors on Friday launched the new version of its mid-sized sedan Chevrolet Aveo packed with new features.

Priced between Rs. 5.90 lakh and Rs. 6.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the three models of refurbished Aveo come with refreshed instrument panel with chrome lining, telescopic instrument cluster, improved gear shift for easier drivability, enhanced throttle response for better acceleration and advanced levels of noise, vibration and harshness protection for silent cabin.

Speaking at a press conference here, GM India President and Managing Director, Rajeev Chaba, said: “The launch of new Aveo is a testament to the importance that GM India attached to maximising customer satisfaction.” Aveo, which is a global product, has been re-engineered for India based on extensive testing across the country to meet the specific needs of local customers and driving conditions, he added.

General Motors also launched Chevrolet Promise, a customer-oriented initiative under which the company would refund the maintenance cost of a customer if it exceeds a fixed amount over a period of three years or 45,000 km (whichever is earlier).

As if these upgrades should be exculsive to India. It would be nice to squeeze some refinement and more mpg's from the powertrain in NA.

^Is that all of this new variants? OR is this an introduction to the new hatchbacks?

I was surprised by "mid-size" too, and also curious about what the new variants are. If there are improvements that haven't carried over to the US market yet, or others, hope they get on it.

Maybe the sedan is considered mid-sized in their market. Other variants would be the three and five doors I would presume.

I love how they improve NVH "protection" but not occupant protection. Aside from the fuel economy and horsepower issues the Aveo has, you might remember it also doesn't do great in crash tests (though better than Chinese cars).

I dont think any automaker needs to waste too much on occupant protection: the average speed of traffic in india's metros in less than 10 mph!

Hmm, you may have a point - but since the same car is sold worldwide (including in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia), you'd think that they would be a little worried about the crash test scores.
